One of the most iconic and groundbreaking boomer shooters returns with a vengeance. The cult classic Blood rises again in Blood: Refreshed Supply, a full remaster rebuilt from the original source code. It adds new levels, restores cut content, and supports modern hardware. But the real question remains—is it enough?
What Is Blood?

While as much of a cult classic as Blood has become, most folks who aren’t heavy into boomer shooters might not know of it because it isn’t a part of “the big three” for Build Engine games (those titles being Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem 3D). Blood follows the story of Caleb, an undead gunslinger on a quest for revenge against his former demonic master, Tchernobog. Despite being one of the “Chosen” few, Caleb and his fellow chosen were betrayed and slain for reasons unknown. He now arises again in a quest for vengeance and, of course, blood.
Aside from its story, Blood stands out as one of the hardest boomer shooters ever made on the Build Engine. Enemies spot you in an instant—much like Jackals on Halo 2 Legendary—keeping players constantly on edge. Built on the iconic Build Engine, the game showcases creative environmental design, physics-driven combat, and brutal themes that have kept fans hooked since its 1997 release.
Since then, Blood has inspired dozens of boomer shooters. One of the most recent and biggest titles is Cultic.
Blood: Refreshed Supply
Blood: Refresh Supply lives again, rebuilt on Nightdive Studios’ powerful KEX Engine. The remaster adds dozens of playable cut levels, concept art, behind-the-scenes photos, and unused sprites. Every cutscene has been fully remastered—one of the game’s biggest upgrades. Players can also tweak expanded options that enhance enemy behavior, restore weather effects once cut from the original, and introduce a range of other modern improvements.
Local split-screen and online co-op, rewritten netcode & extended modding support, including existing mods, are all packaged with Refreshed Supply. Speaking of mods, two of the most popular modes, Marrow and Death Wish, will also be included in Blood: Refreshed Supply.
Is the Remaster Worth It?
Nightdive Studios has done a fantastic job of reviving a handful of older titles, giving them a fresh coat of paint or, in some cases, a full remaster. They are the ones behind the System Shock remaster, and have also remastered The Thing, STAR WARS™: Dark Forces, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, and much more. So it’s safe to say that, given their track record of uplifting and remastering older games, a lot of passion and love have gone into this project.

Much like the recent Dawn of War remaster, fans are already questioning whether this new version is worth it. After all, Blood already received a remaster in 2019 with Blood: Fresh Supply. Many fans feel frustrated that instead of fixing the lingering issues from the previous release, Nightdive Studios is building yet another version with added features and tweaks.
All in all, Blood: Refreshed Supply looks amazing and offers far more content and quality of life fixes than any other version has offered in the past. Hopefully, Nightdive will offer fans who bought the 2019 remaster a discount on this one at the very least.
Overall, if you are looking to dive into the realm of boomer shooters or you really want a challenge, give Blood a go. In the meantime, until Caleb rises again, check out our other games section for more news and updates!
