Discord decided that Discord Nitro members deserved much more, and they are expanding the rewards you get for subscribing. If you thought that you were just getting a few more free Orbs or cosmetic features, you were wrong this time! One of the biggest additions is a partnership with Xbox that brings Xbox Game Pass directly into the subscription.
The announcement comes as part of a new initiative called Nitro Rewards that aims to turn Nitro from a Discord-focused subscription into a larger gaming membership with extra perks, rewards, and even hardware discounts.
Xbox Game Pass Is Now Included With Nitro
This was really the biggest surprise for us, with the addition of a starter version of Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost for Nitro subscribers. According to Discord, Nitro members will now get access to:
- A rotating library of 50+ PC and console games
- Downloadable titles
- 10 hours of cloud gaming support
You could think that the available games will be the usual games no one plays, but so far, the few games that were mentioned are quite good and interesting:
- Fallout 4
- Stardew Valley
- DayZ
- Deep Rock Galactic
- Overcooked 2
- Grounded
Of course, those are only a few of the included games. You will have access to up to 50 games in total, and Discord says more games will continue to be added over time as well.
Nitro Rewards Also Adds Hardware Discounts
Beyond Game Pass, Nitro subscribers are also getting discounts on gaming hardware and accessories for different brands. The current launch partners include:
- Logitech G with up to 30% off
- SteelSeries with 15% off
- KontrolFreek with 20% off
Discord also confirmed that additional partners and rotating offers are planned later on, so this is just the start.
Nitro Users Also Get More Orbs
The update also expands Discord’s Orb system. For those who are not familiar with the Orbs, it is basically Discord’s way of offering free cosmetic rewards. You can obtain the Orbs by completing small quests that often involve either watching a specific trailer or playing a specific game for a few minutes. Those can be obtained by everyone, including people who are not subscribed to Discord Nitro.
However, from now on, Nitro members will receive 250 Orbs every month automatically and increased Orb gains from completed Quests. Orbs can be used in Discord’s Shop for cosmetics and profile items.
Discord Wants Nitro To Become a Gaming Membership
The overall goal here is that Discord clearly wants Nitro to become more than just animated avatars, custom profiles, bigger uploads, and HD streaming. Instead, the company is now trying to position Nitro as a bigger gaming subscription linked directly to games, rewards, hardware, and gaming services.
And honestly, including a version of Game Pass without increasing the subscription price is a pretty cool move. Because yes, the price, at least for now, does not seem to be increasing, yet you do get pretty nice additions.
Discord says the new Nitro Rewards are rolling out gradually over the next few weeks, so if you are already subscribed and do not see the benefits right now, they may simply not have reached your account yet. You will have to be patient and wait for the bonuses to be added in your region, but once they do, enjoy the Game Pass access you just got!
