Following the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation during Summer Game Fest 2026, director Naoki Hamaguchi has shared a surprising amount of new information about the final chapter of the remake trilogy.

In a huge interview with Denfaminico, Hamaguchi discussed everything from exploration and gameplay systems to character stories, player choice, and the game’s ending. Some details were expected, but other information is really interesting and might not have been expected!

The interview was in Japanese and has been translated by aitaikimochi on Twitter/X.

Player Choices Will Matter More This Time

One of the biggest details from the interview is that player decisions will have a much larger impact than they did in Rebirth.

According to Hamaguchi, choices made throughout Revelation can affect how you experience the story, potentially leading to very different journeys depending on the decisions you make. At the same time, he stressed that he is not a fan of traditional multiple endings and wants to deliver a clear conclusion to the remake trilogy.

In other words, the path may change, but the destination appears to remain carefully planned. So basically, multiple roads will lead to one single ending, so to speak.

The Highwind Is Available From the Start

Another big surprise is the Highwind.

According to Hamaguchi, we will apparently gain access to the Highwind very early in Revelation. He also explained that the team wanted players to have the freedom to explore the world and decide where to go first.

That freedom comes with a warning, however. Some locations can be reached long before you are ready for them, with enemies powerful enough to quickly send Cloud’s party back home.

Wutai, Midgar, Vincent, and Zack Get Expanded Roles

A few fan-favorite locations and characters are also receiving much more attention in Revelation.

Hamaguchi confirmed that Wutai has been significantly expanded and will feature a bigger political storyline than many players may expect. The Turks will also play an important role in that part of the game. Meanwhile, Midgar returns as an explorable location, and you may even encounter characters connected to Deepground!

On the character side, Vincent and Cid are finally joining the playable characters. Vincent can switch between his human and beast forms at the press of a button, and Cid specializes in aerial combat. Both characters will also feature synergy abilities with the rest of the party.

As for Zack, Hamaguchi revealed that he will have an even bigger role than he did in Rebirth, with his story continuing to play an important part in Revelation’s exploration of multiple timelines.

Familiar Features Return, With Some Changes

Several systems from Rebirth are also making a comeback.

The affinity system is returning but will work differently, with the developers wanting to give every character more opportunities to shine. Mini-games are also back, although Hamaguchi acknowledged that some players found Rebirth’s mini-games frustrating and said the team is adjusting the difficulty accordingly.

And yes, for anyone wondering, the infamous slap fight between Tifa and Scarlet is still in the game and has apparently been turned into a mini-game. So if you are like us and hated the amount of mini-games there were in Rebirth… well, I guess we will have to suffer through them one more time in Revelation.

A Finale Ten Years in the Making

According to Hamaguchi, the central theme of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is “resolve.”

After more than a decade of work across the remake trilogy, the development team is now focused on delivering a conclusion that links together Cloud’s journey and the stories of the rest of the cast. Hamaguchi said he is particularly proud of the ending, though fans will have to wait until release to see exactly how everything comes together.

Between expanded exploration, meaningful player choices, the return of iconic locations, and the arrival of the Highwind from the very beginning, Revelation is probably the most ambitious entry in the trilogy so far, and we can’t wait to see how it all ends!
