Nexon’s New MMO Looks Promising But Players Are Skeptical

Nexon just revealed a new MMORPG called Embers of the Uncrowned. Although the trailer looks good at first glance, there are already a few concerns players discuss among themselves.

The game looks like most familiar action-MMO’s out there, with fast combat and great visuals. From what the trailers and screenshots show so far, Embers of the Uncrowned sits somewhere between Lost Ark and Path of Exile 2, with its own spin on the setting.

What is especially interesting is the weapon-switch system you can use during combat, which will likely make gameplay feel smooth and less dependent on large skill bars.

Players Are Not Fully Convinced

Not everything about it is exciting, though. Early reactions, especially on Reddit, are pretty mixed.

One of the biggest concerns is monetization. Even without details yet, a lot of players are already expecting some form of pay-to-win, mostly because of Nexon’s track record. There is also a general feeling that many Korean MMOs tend to follow similar patterns, which makes it harder for new ones to truly stand out.

The visuals are also quite the argument-tigger within the MMORPG community. It seems that most players generally like the look of what is available so far, but overall, the game does appear a bit generic and too similar to recent MMO releases.

Still Too Early to Judge

In any case, not everyone is directly against it or writing it off early. If you want to take a look at community sentiment, you can check out the Reddit thread here:

A few players said the trailer looks good and are open to trying it. And as always, it is hard to judge an MMO this early without knowing more about progression, endgame, or monetization.

Either way, Embers of the Uncrowned does look like one of the few new MMORPG’s to keep an eye on, for now. Whether it can stand out or ends up feeling familiar will depend on what Nexon shows next.
