You may be more familiar with Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 4, or the recent remakes, but Code: Veronica has long been considered one of the most important entries in the series. It continues Claire Redfield’s story after the destruction of Raccoon City and finally brings her face-to-face with some of Umbrella’s darkest secrets.
Now, Capcom is giving the classic game a complete overhaul for modern platforms.
Claire’s Search for Chris Leads to a Nightmare

Resident Evil Veronica picks up three months after the events of Resident Evil 2.
Leon stayed behind to begin his journey as a government agent, but Claire never stopped searching for her brother Chris. That search eventually takes her to France, where things go wrong almost immediately.
Instead of finding Chris, Claire ends up in Umbrella’s hands and is shipped off to Rockfort Island, a prison sitting in the middle of the ocean. Escaping would already be difficult under normal circumstances, and unfortunately for Claire, another outbreak hits the island before she gets the chance.
The result is exactly the kind of survival horror situation Resident Evil fans know all too well: limited resources, infected prisoners roaming the halls, and absolutely nowhere to run.
Rockfort Island

The developer also mentioned that the island’s infected population does not behave like usual. Unlike many of the zombies encountered during the Raccoon City outbreak, the prisoners and guards of Rockfort Island often move in big groups, creating a different kind of threat for those trying to save on resources and survive.

The original Code: Veronica was released ages ago, making it one of the oldest main Resident Evil games that has never received a modern remake.
Capcom says Veronica will keep the base story intact, but you will get updated gameplay, and they will retell parts of the narrative. The new screenshots already show a much darker and more detailed version of Rockfort Island, from its prison blocks to its infected inhabitants.
Code: Veronica has always occupied a strange place in Resident Evil history.
It is not as famous as Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 4, yet many longtime fans consider it one of the most important stories in the series. It is where Claire and Chris Redfield’s story really comes together, and where some of Resident Evil’s most memorable villains appear.
As a reminder, Resident Evil Veronica is scheduled to launch in 2027 and will be available on all platforms on day one, so not that long to wait!
