The first official playtest for Scars of Honor will be taking place from April 30 to May 11. If you’re interested in trying it out, be sure to Head to the Scars of Honor Steam Page and click on the “Request Access” button.
Your first few steps into Aragon can be a little overwhelming, but don’t worry – you will quickly learn the ins and outs of Scars of Honor quickly as you progress your character. To help you prepare, we’ve prepared a Scars of Honor Beginner’s Guide that will help you along the way.
Remember – This is a Playtest
Before jumping into the beginner tips and tricks, it’s important to understand that this truly is a playtest. You will experience bugs, lag, and most likely some systems that need to be further refined. Keep this in mind as you jump in and be sure to share your feedback via the Scars of Honor Discord to ensure it’s in the best possible state once released.
With that being said, let’s jump into the Scars of Honor Beginner’s Guide.
Choosing Your Faction, Race, and Class
One of the first decisions you’ll make is choosing your faction, race, and class. Each of these decisions are important because they impact each other.
For example, if you choose the Sacred Order faction, you will then be limited to the following four race options: Human, Sun Elf, Dwarf, and Bearan.
Based on which of these four races you choose, you’ll then be provided with a limited set of classes that you can select. For additional details on these options, visit our in-depth Scars of Honor Class Guide and the chart below.

Character Progression (Talents & Scars)

Explore, explore, explore. As you begin to explore the world of Aragon, you’ll realize that the world itself is pretty large, and there’s A LOT to do. Instead of grinding out in one specific area, it’s highly recommended to explore the map and challenge a range of elite mobs and bosses.
As a friendly reminder, as your character levels up and complete certain challenges, you’ll be provided the option to choose from different “Scars”. Scars are permanent buffs that fundamentally alter your abilities and playstyle, so it’s important to ensure you pick the relevant buffs to what your build is, as well as ensuring you are defeating as many elite mobs as you can to maximize the number of scars your character picks up.
Additionally, you also have Talent Points that will allow you to customize your build even further with certain skills, abilities, and passives. As you can tell from the image below, the number of options you have is tremendous. It’s worth taking your team and reading these different talents and pathways to ensure you’re investing your talent points towards your end goal.

Please note: There is a “refund” system when it comes to Talent Points, so don’t stress too much in case you choose the wrong one early on. You can always readjust these to try new builds out.
Equipment & Inventory

As your character progresses, so should your equipment and consumables. As you can see from the image above, there is a wide range of equipment that players can use in their builds, each with unique qualities and bonuses. It’s important to be aware of the type of equipment you’re using, as some stats might favor certain builds over others. For example, you may have a helmet that provides a high amount of Dexterity, which might be great for a Ranger, but if you’re a Mage you may want to reconsider using it.
Additionally, potions will support your exploration across both PvE and PvP scenarios. With that being said, it’s worth trying out the gathering and crafting systems so you can be self-sufficient for not only consumables but also gear! To be as self-sufficient as possible, consider cutting down that extra tree, or mining that extra ore and saving it for later – it might lead to a big upgrade down the road.
Dungeon Exploration

One of the most popular PvE-related activities to do in Scars of Honor will be exploring dungeons. These dungeons are not just combat spaces or loot corridors, they’re dangerous, lore-rich trials that are designed to test how well you fight, adapt, and survive together.
One of the most interesting features about dungeons in Scars of Honor are how they’re built to evolve. Each dungeon run is procedurally generated, meaning that every dungeon will feel tense, unpredictable, and unique.
At a very high-level, the team at Scars of Honor shared a quick overview of what each dungeon will include. These are listed below.
- Every dungeon consists of 2 mazes.
- These 2 mazes consist of 8 rooms to explore.
- At the connection point of each maze, a mini boss room awaits.
- At the end of the final maze, the final boss will appear.
After completing a dungeon, there will be new tiers unlocked where the number of mazes, rooms, mob density, and overall dungeon difficulty is amplified – making it the perfect type of content to jump in and try out (especially for a playtest).

This last tip is also considered to be one of the most helpful – and that’s about community-driven content.
