Why StarCraft Players Feel Left Out by Blizzard Again

Blizzard recently shared the full schedule for its upcoming Blizzard Showcase livestreams, covering World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone, and Diablo. One franchise is missing entirely, though: StarCraft.

That did not go unnoticed.

Across Reddit and other community spaces, StarCraft fans are clearly frustrated that Blizzard’s 35th anniversary celebrations once again move forward without even a small nod to one of its most iconic franchises.

Community Frustration Is Boiling Over

StarCraft is still very well-known and important to a lot of Blizzard fans, especially longtime RTS players, so the reaction online was pretty much expected. For example, this thread on the StarCraft subreddit that calls out what players see as years of neglect:

A common point in the discussion is that players were not even asking for a big announcement. A short mention, a small teaser, or a simple “yes, we are working on something” would have lifted everyone’s spirit. Instead, StarCraft is completely absent from the showcase lineup.

Players also point out that the only officially confirmed StarCraft project right now is the upcoming tabletop game by Archon Studios. Blizzard has barely talked about it so far though, which makes the silence around the franchise feel even worse.

Hope, Rumors, and Low Trust

Nevertheless, StarCraft keeps coming up in various Blizzard discussions. Rumors about a new StarCraft project, possibly tied to BlizzCon 2026, continue to circulate, ranging from a shooter spin-off to a full RTS sequel.

Reports from previous years already suggested Blizzard might be working on a new StarCraft title, but without any official confirmation, most players are cautious at best. After how things have played out in the past, optimism does not come easily.

Blizzard’s own wording in the showcase announcement did not help much either. The post mentions that “this is only the beginning,” with BlizzCon 2026 on the horizon. Unfortunately, for StarCraft fans, that line feels familiar… and not in a good way.

So, for now, StarCraft remains the elephant in the room. The fanbase is obviously still there, still passionate, and still hoping for something meaningful, but also clearly tired of waiting to be acknowledged.
