Everyone’s Playing This Mythic+ Comp — And It’s Not Even Close: Week 3 Spec Popularity

Starym's Avatar by Starym

It’s been a hectic week in the dungeons as we see a lot of bloating for the top specs and groups. We see the top 3 spec gain in numbers, while a top group composition has emerged and massively pulled ahead of everyone else, so let’s dive right in.

If you’re more interested in the actual completion rates and log rankings, head on over here for DPS and here for tanks and healers.

The Data

The data used in this article comes from Raider.IO‘s excellent analytics tools, taking into account all Mythic+ runs across all levels of play. The data is focused on this past reset and not on the season as a whole.

The Most Popular Specs in Mythic+

There’s quite a bit of movement here, as we not only see Restoration Shaman catch up to Frost Death Knight and Retribution to the Shaman, but all three top specs gained a lot of players as well. It’s over 1% each, in fact, with the Paladin and DK gaining the most. We also see a new No.4 and top tank, as Prot Warrior has overtaken Demon Hunter and skipped 3 spots up! Warriors are only in 3rd in the completion point logs, but they’re on top in the raid, which definitely matters here too.

Tanks are up in general, as Prot Paladin also gains some traction, and is also moving past Vengeance. The new DH top dog is Havoc, gaining a big 1.2% of the population in 5th. Augmentation, Fire, and Affliction are still at the bottom, but the Mage and Warlock at least gained 0.1% and are up to 0.3%, while the Evoker remains at its 0.1% total.

We’ve climbed an extra key level as we see 19s on the board! The top key still has a lot of variety to it, with 16 specs playing the big numbers. We only a full class representation for Warriors there, with Rogues and Druids getting two specs in with relevant numbers. The number of specs in 18s has also doubled since last week, moving up to 26! Can you spot Aug, Fire, or Affliction in there?

And here’s a more detailed look at the numbers, including actual runs taken by each spec!

Group Composition Popularity

We have a runaway winner in week 3 already, as the top spec combo from last week has taken off and then some. Prot Warr + Resto Sham+ Frost DK + Marksmanship + Ret is the composition to beat, as it gains almost 2% of the population, pulling way ahead of everyone else, 2.2% ahead of its closest competitor. Said competitor only switches up the tank, grabbing the Demon Hunter instead of the Warrior, and the third most popular group switches out No.1s healer to Resto Druid.
