Heroic World Tier Is Making Leveling Fun Again for WoW Players

If you haven’t tried Heroic World Tier (HWT) yet, you might be missing out on what players are saying is “the most fun [they’ve] had in WoW’s overworld in ages.” At first glance, it may sound intimidating—or maybe even unnecessary. But once you give it a shot, you quickly realise just how refreshing it is.

HWT is a Diablo-inspired feature in Legion Remix, where mobs in the open world are empowered with increased health and damage, and offer increased rewards and experience. You can’t just faceroll through quests anymore; every skill matters, every cooldown counts, and you have to think about how to survive. This shift transforms the questing experience from a predictable grind, into an engaging challenge for solo players or those revisiting older content.

Accessibility and Optionality

Part of its appeal is that HWT doesn’t force your hand with additional rewards or gated content. Yes, you have cool sets locked behind achievements, such as Ensemble: Sargerei Commander's Voidscarred Regalia iconEnsemble: Sargerei Commander’s Voidscarred Regalia, rewarded for completing Heroic Broken Isles World Quests IV iconHeroic Broken Isles World Quests IV, but choosing to level this way still feels entirely optional.

When killing mobs in HWT, experience gained is increased by 500%. While this may seem like a huge difference, getting those kills solo will take significantly longer—if you can even kill your enemies at all! This experience buff does not affect quest XP or rewards, and so the reward compared to the time invested really is minimal.

Bronze and Infinite Power are increased from mob drops, but this still feels in-line with the time investment—meaning playing in HWT is truly optional, while still feeling “very rewarding” for those who seek the extra challenge.

Heroic World Tier for Retail

The overwhelming consensus from the community is that we want more HWT. Bringing this feature to retail could revitalise levelling, and make the open world feel dangerous and engaging again. But by offering it as an optional challenge, without gating content or out-of-balance rewards, Blizzard can offer players both the thrill of danger and the satisfaction of mastery—without alienating the more casual audience.

The bottom line is, “Heroic World Tier is a win”. It isn’t about efficiency, it’s about rediscovering the joy of playing WoW’s classes, tactics, and world. For anyone who misses the sense of challenge in the open world, it’s a must-try.
