An interesting detail popped up in one of the images shared in all the BlizzCon announcements. The Worldcore raid has a particularly spiky part in its main chamber, which players have spotted and are now thinking may be the tip of Sargeras’ sword!
Some REALLY Good Aim
As Freelancer0495 points out, the red pointy thing in the top left of the image below sure looks familiar!

If it really is the sword, Sargeras came incredibly close to destroying Azeroth! Or was that even his intent? There’s a few things to consider here. If he was going for the kill, as is the general feel of the cinematic, there’s no way he accidentally got THAT close considering the scale we’re talking about. It would have to be some defense mechanism, either from the Titan machinery or Azeroth herself, that stopped it or deflected it. Alternatively, perhaps the point wasn’t to stab/destroy the World Soul. Perhaps Sargeras was trying to free her from the Titan devices (which look suspiciously similar to the Primal dragons’ prisons from the Vault of the Incarnates) by destroying them. Or, that’s not even the sword.
Is That Even the Sword?

First off, despite what it initially looks like, I’d say whatever it is isn’t actually lined up with the World Soul sphere or its containment rings. It looks like it’s behind it, possibly even on the wall of the domed structure.

Also, the “tip” itself looks very strange and craggy. While it seems unlikely Sargeras went and stabbed Azeroth with an unsharpened sword, it would definitely pick up a lot of debris along its long, LONG trip to the Worldcore. Between the planet’s crust, mantle, and everything else, a lot could have melted onto it, making the tip look like it does above. Or that’s just how the colossal sword’s tip looks. Here are a few angles of it we’ve seen so far:

It doesn’t look any more pointy in-game either.

And here are a few images from the lore books (at least the ones that match its current look):

Again, doesn’t look extremely sharp, especially considering its size.
What Else Could it Be?
As I’ve mentioned before, whatever it is seems to be behind the sphere. It might also be a crack in the domed room, showing the rocks behind it. That also seems a little unlikely, as there’s no cracks in the walls and no other signs of displacement on the structure. What it looks like most is like a dimensional rift with some rocks inside it (but it’s definitely not that). Could it be linked to Xal’atath’s incursion?
Another reason not to think it’s the sword is the Eclipse cinematic itself, and basically the entirety of what we’ve seen from Xal’atath so far. If it is the sword and it did break the Titan’s chamber, why did she need all that power to get in when it was already breached? Then again, maybe she needs the power for something else and just decided to use the front door because she could.
Apropos of nothing, I’ll just leave this awesome and related fan cinematic here:
So, what’s your verdict? Is it the sword and did Blizzard just do the most subtle reveal ever, just tossing it in a promotional image? Or is it something else, not really that relevant to the plot and lore? Considering how close it is to the World Soul, whatever it is I’d say is definitely not irrelevant.
Are we finally going to see a proper addressing of Sargeras’ stabbing? We may have to wait until the very end of the raid in 12.2! You know what they say though…
What sword?
