Mythic+ Activity Tanks After Event Week While Remix Keeps Freefalling

The fifteenth week of Mythic+ in this season is over, and Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the weekly data provided by Raider.IO. After the dungeon event week, activity has dropped off significantly. A 17.02% decline in runs is quite a lot, but it is an expected value after an event that rewards more M+ participation. The decrease compared to week 13 is just 13.32%. Remix M+ numbers, on the other hand, keep falling off a cliff. Each week, we are seeing around 30% fewer runs completed. But let’s look at the details.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

The weekly drop-off is once again more prominent in the four regular regions. 18.09% fewer runs, compared to just 16.01% on the Chinese servers. Compared to the previous seasons’ progression, TWW S3 has now reached the lowest point of activity. The only comparable season, DF S4, had at this point already seen a major rebound from transferred Pandaria Remix characters. This process should increase for Legion Remix rather soon, since the housing rewards from this mode unlock in week 18.

Chinese players continue to dominate the global metrics. With 52.26% of the global share, they reached a new peak value for this season. Since Asian players tend to stick to M+ for longer throughout a season, this might even increase further.

Remix activity dropped by 30.93% compared to week 6. With the release of Seat of the Triumvirate, the last Legion M+ dungeon has joined the roster. Most M+ activity already focuses on high-end rewards and gaining more infinite power. But for the latter, players also farm all raids on mythic. The only opposing trend by now is the increasing share of US metrics. It seems that those players are not min/maxing their time spent in Remix.

Total Runs Across All S3 Dungeons

The dungeon split widened once more, with more than a 4.5-percentage point difference between the first and last rank. The Dawnbreaker rose from 2nd to last up to 4th place, despite unaddressed bugs. The overall success rate increased by 0.81 points to 88.29%. This is the second-highest value for this season, only surpassed by the full Turbo Boost week 11. The affix combination was a rather easy one.

The overall improvement was reflected by all dungeons but one. Eco-Dome (93.30%) was once again ahead of Gambit (92.80%). Both left quite a gap toward Streets of Wonder (90.35%), which was the only dungeon negatively impacted by the affix combination. A 5-man boss dungeon will always suffer from Tyrannical first weeks. And Voidbound spawns can have nasty overlaps with the general encounter mechanics.

Halls of Attonement (89.60%) was the regular 4th place. The Dawnbreaker (86.80%) was leading the lower half ahead of Priory (85.89%), which saw a major bump from easy affixes. Operation Floodgate (84.17%) also saw decent improvement and stayed way ahead of Ara-Kara (79.69%) and its ignored tuning issues.

Split Across All S3 Key Levels

81.33% of all keys were completed at level 10 and higher. 24.77% were done at level 10 alone. The focus was once again on level 12 with 27.89%. And the majority of all keys (51.34%) were still done at level 12 and above. The first signs of a chasm within the higher keys are already appearing.

The difference in total run numbers between levels 16 and 17 continues to decrease. Within the final weeks of the season, we should see an activity gap forming around this level range. Relative share and absolute numbers once more only increased for the highest 3 key levels. And we finally saw the first +23 timed on live servers. But can players replicate the key level 24 record from the MDI?

Success rates increased by up to 3.35 points for lower key levels, compared to the previous week. A clear sign of an easy affix combination. The rates for key levels 15 to 18 decreased the most, by -0.81% to -1.41%. It might be another sign of an apathy gap towards the high end.

Legion Remix Dungeon Split

With the final content update for Remix, Seat of the Triumvirate joined the M+ dungeon roster. At 5th place, it saw way more interest than it did during its original run in the last 2 Legion seasons. Its depletion rate of 1.92% was the third highest for all dungeons, though. The split among all dungeons decreased. Since the focus is on the infinite power grind and no specific loot, it looks a lot better than during any Legion season.

Legion Remix Key Level Split

The top-end key level decreased once more from 185 in the previous week to 182. Maybe there will be a rebound with better affix combinations, but this competition is just between a handful of teams.

Mythic+ Run Data by RaiderIO

77.57% of all keys were done at level 20 and higher. While total numbers for every key level decreased, the overall share only slightly shifted slightly. Level 20 keys jumped from 3.18% to 3.58%, level 30 decreased from 11.31% to 11.15%, and level 40 remained almost unchanged with 4.26%. But level 50 once again improved from 2.36% to 2.80%. The major shift toward high-level keys doesn’t seem to continue.

Once housing is out on Retail, we might see the last big drop-offs in total run numbers. It’s hard to tell what the distribution pattern will look like in the final weeks of Remix.

Conclusion and Week 16 Forecast

Remix M+ is fading into irrelevance, and Retail M+ is heading towards the finish line. So far, no plans for major decor rewards from M+ have been revealed. It could help participation if we saw regular cosmetic additions for this feature in the long run.

As of this writing, 120 hours after the US reset, hourly numbers for the main regions show only a slight decline. An indicator that we might have reached the seasonal floor. The US servers show a slight uptick of 0.2% more runs. And the EU and Chinese servers are just 3.3% behind last week’s performance. An influx of converted Remix characters might bump up the numbers in the coming weeks. But that is a topic for future breakdowns.
