Blizzard opened the door to Void Elf Demon Hunters in the Midnight pre-patch, but that move may have tilted the balance of power between the factions.
Now, all eyes are on the Nightborne, because the Horde’s answer might already be hiding in plain sight.
Void Elves Get the Edge
At gamescom 2025, Blizzard confirmed that Alliance players will finally get Void Elf Demon Hunters. At the same time, the devs admitted this will create a faction imbalance that they hope to solve by giving Horde players access to some other race/class combos during the Worldsoul Saga.

The Nightborne Connection
Here’s where it gets interesting! The Nightborne share the same skeleton and animations as Night Elves, who already have demon Hunters. According to Redditor Bluegatorator, every single Demon Hunter animation is now in the Nightborne rig. That includes Fel Rush and
Vengeful Retreat. This wasn’t always the case. Back when The War Within expansion launched, Reddit user RedGearedMonkey tested the Nightborne glamor masks and confirmed those animations weren’t in the files. But now? They’re all there. That means Blizzard could flip a simple switch and make Nightborne Demon Hunters happen tomorrow without any heavy dev work required!

Which Horde Race Fits the Demon Hunter Best?
Blizzard may be holding back to give the Horde a different surprise race for Demon Hunters down the road. Orcs are often mentioned, as their demonic history makes them a natural fit.
But if they want to avoid another round of “Alliance favorism” accusations, Nightborne Demon Hunters are the most obvious fix. The lore’s there, the animations exist, and the faction desperately needs a parallel to Void Demon Hunters!

Here’s a video by Bluegatorator showcasing Nightborne Demon Hunter animations. I think the transformation was achieved via the Orb of Deception toy.
