Pre-Patch DPS Is Completely Broken — Here’s What the Day 1 Log Rankings Show

Starym's Avatar by Starym

We’re back! It’s been quite a while since we checked the logs, and with the chaos of the pre-patch, now is the best time to dive back into it. From the item level squish to the class reworks/ability pruning, slightly questionable boss HP adjustments post-squish, and exploits with huge item levels, it’s been quite an interesting few days. Obviously, the pre-patch situation isn’t relevant to what things will look like in Midnight itself, but it’s a fun look at where things are right now. The EU has now had a full day of raiding, so we can officially say day 1 is behind us. Let’s get to it!

Retail and Remix Spec and Group Popularity, Week 17

Note: We are using normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it’s AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.

Mythic

Overall Damage 95th Percentile

The top two are looking very Season 1-2, as Unholy is destroying the competition, also being the most played spec in Mythic. The number of parses ranges from around 3,000 to a lowly 200 for Outlaw, but it has only been 1-2 days, depending on region. Non-Unholy specs aren’t that far apart, with only Devastation standing out significantly, and it’s always good to see Survival at the top, even if it is in a weird pre-patch period.

Bosses in the raid are falling down very quickly, with Dimensius in particular dropping his fight length by half, and Nexus-King even falling to the 1-minute mark for some. You can check out the timing changes here.

Overall Damage All Percentiles

The overall chart is basically the same as the top percentiles, with Fury doing a little better and getting past Affliction and Elemental dropping a few spots. Of particular note are the very top parses for the top 2, as Devastation is not only holding its own against Unholy, but even beating it out!

Boss Only Damage All Percentiles

Things look very similar in the boss-only department, with the exception of Unholy holding on to the top in all brackets.

Individual Bosses

Fractillus

Nexus-King Salhadaar

Dimensius, the All-Devouring

Heroic Overall Damage All Percentiles

The Heroic chart is looking particularly hilarious and very difficult to read. The culprit is a Frost Death Knight who most certainly made use of the Timewalking item level 600+ bug, as it’s sitting over 700 points, which isn’t really something that’s at all possible under normal circumstances. The actual chart is looking very similar to Mythic, with Arcane doing a little better here.
