Retail Holds the Lead as Mythic+ Numbers Fall Hard in Season 3 Week 12

The twelfth week of Mythic+ in this season is over, and Nightstalker314 is taking a look at the weekly data provided by Raider.IO. A week after the full Turbo Boost unlock, activity declined again for Retail M+, though it still stayed ahead of Remix metrics. The focus on higher keys dipped slightly. And in Remix, players continued to push further towards the high-end rewards. So, let’s look at the details.

Weekly Total Run Performance Compared To Other Seasons

The total run numbers worldwide dropped by 26.30%. Unlike in week 11, the Chinese players were once again a bit more active than the rest. Their metric decreased by just 23.59% while the other regions saw a drop of 28.47%. And compared to 2 weeks before, the Chinese numbers dropped by 14.2%, while the rest only lost 3.72%. The Turbo Boost didn’t immediately cause complete burnout the following week.

The curve for the same situation in TWW S2 looks slightly better since the uncapped week was followed by a dungeon event. We have yet to see how many characters swap to retail the moment the content release on Remix ends in a few weeks. During DF S4, the switch was tied to the end of Pandaria Remix. Back then, many players jumped into retail M+ afterward to gear up their Remix characters.

While Retail still outperformed Remix last week, the lead narrowed significantly. Remix keys dropped by 15.35% week over week due to a shift toward higher keys and one-time unlocks. For now, the cloak and title are still highly sought-after rewards. But further down the line, only the Argus cosmetics remain. EU players appear to have completed their Remix M+ bucket lists much faster than other regions. The general M+ activity in Remix might decline a lot faster than in retail.

Total Runs Across All S3 Dungeons

The dungeon split narrowed again compared to the previous week. When there is less focus on grinding out crests, players tend to be less picky about the fastest and easiest keys. The order of dungeons shifted a bit from rank 4 to 7, but all of this happened within the range of a few 1,000 runs. Success rates stayed high at 88.05% but dropped across all dungeons compared to week 11. This was mostly due to fewer +12s being farmed at the prior week’s pace.

Eco-Dome (92.76%) remained just ahead of Gambit (92.74%). Streets (91.14%) and Halls (89.09%) followed closely by. Dawnbreaker (86.12%), though less favored this season, led the lower half ahead of Priory (85.13%) and Floodgate (83.84%). Ara-Kara (80.97%) is once again dead last with a distance of almost 3 percentage points. Last season, the gap between the easiest and hardest dungeon was rarely more than 9 percentage points, now it’s about 12.

Split Across All S3 Key Levels

Only 84.45% of all keys were completed at level 10 and above, with 20.44% at level 10. Key level 12 was still dominating with close to 31%. This pattern of dominance did not last after the Turbo Boost week in S2. We want to call this an easier season in general. But a worse balancing across all dungeons drags it down too much. And high-end players have already mentioned that a season that is too easy makes progression feel less earned. The split has, of course, completely shifted away from key level 12. The number of completed runs decreased by 42% compared to last week. Overall activity only increased slightly at the very top end. And even there, it doesn’t increase much week to week.

The success rate fell by 1.5 percentage points. The biggest drop came from fewer attempts at level 12 keys. Their rate dropped from nearly 93% last week to 90%. Keys in the range from +16 to 20 also saw less success. This could be because recently maxed-out characters are entering tougher content for the first time. For the lower half, these metrics went up across almost all levels. Here, the extra crests from delves may have made for an easier entry into M+.

Legion Remix Dungeon Split

The overall split decreased compared to the previous week, but it is still massive compared to retail. Long and RP-heavy dungeons remain unpopular. Both Karazhan dungeons lost a bit of popularity after their first week. We still need to see how Cathedral of the Eternal Night performs since it returned in week 5. Barely anyone liked it in its initial run during Legion. It’s also just one long run through corridors and staircases with added RP.

Legion Remix Key Level Split

The top-end key level didn’t climb a lot this week. It increased only slightly, from 161 to 163. While the total number of high-end keys is still quite small, it is steadily growing from week to week. The number of keys above 50 and 100 grew by almost a factor of 3 to 13,339 and 596, respectively. And with about 808,000 completed runs, keys at 50 and higher already represent 1.65% of the total amount.

The focus on key levels 20, 30, and 40 develops at a different pace. Unlocking all portals remains somewhat important, but the total number dropped by one-third week over week. Level 30 is still the dominating key level, but it also saw a decline of 30%. Level 40 might become the most popular key long-term. Although currently at just 3.5% of the total share, the numbers grew by 77%, surpassing level 20 metrics from week 4.

Conclusion and Week 13 Forecast

Over the next few weeks, retail and Remix M+ numbers should approach their long-term floor. In week 14, we will get another dungeon event week that might boost the numbers a bit. Once Remix unlocks all content with Argus in week 15 of S3, more players might begin moving their characters from Remix to retail. But then we’ll also be entering Patch 11.2.7, which might pull attention toward early-access housing. And for now, we don’t know if M+ provides any decor.

As of this writing, 120 hours after the US reset, hourly numbers for EU and US servers are once again lower than last week. The main reasons are longer maintenance and a shift back towards the Broken Shore and Tomb of Sargeras grind on Remix. All three major regions have lost between 18% and 25% activity in comparison. It’s interesting to see how the Remix content cadence continues to shape the ebb and flow of M+ activity. But that is also a part of next week’s round-up.
