Stop Wasting Time: This Trick Doubles Your Lumber Per Hour

Emma's Avatar by Emma

If you’re jumping into Player Housing and wondering how to stock up on lumber fast, here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know.

Get Your Harvesting Hatchet

Lumber is used for all crafted decor items. But before you can start whacking trees and gathering Lumber, you need to pick up the Harvesting Hatchet iconHarvesting Hatchet from your main housing hub. This item will be granted on completion of a purple quest offered by the following vendors:

  • Lestia Goldenstrike – Founder’s Point
  • Xiz’ro – Razorwind Shores

Once you’ve got it, lumber nodes will appear on your minimap. This is not a new profession—just having the Harvesting Hatchet iconHarvesting Hatchet in your bags lets you gather. If you lose your axe, you can return to these vendors to buy a new one!

Go Where the Trees Are (Obviously)

Lumber spawns in—shocking twist—wooded areas. If you’re trying to maximise efficiency, stick to these suggested areas:

Ironwood Lumber iconIronwood Lumber (Classic – Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms)

  • Ashenvale
  • Felwood
  • Duskwood
  • Elwynn Forest

Olemba Lumber iconOlemba Lumber (The Burning Crusade – Outland)

  • Nagrand
  • Terokkar Forest
  • Zangarmarsh

Coldwind Lumber iconColdwind Lumber (Weath of the Lich King – Northrend)

  • Howling Fjord
  • Grizzly Hills

Ashwood Lumber iconAshwood Lumber (Cataclysm)

  • Mount Hyjal
  • Twilight Highlands

Bamboo Lumber iconBamboo Lumber (Mists of Pandaria – Pandaria)

  • Jade Forest
  • Valley of the Four Winds
  • Krasarang Wilds

Shadowmoon Lumber iconShadowmoon Lumber (Warlords of Draenor – Draenor)

  • Nagrand
  • Talador
  • Tanaan Jungle
  • Shadowmoon Valley

Note: Shadowmoon Lumber is currently unavailable—but a workaround for this is already in place.

With the initial release of patch 11.2.7, Draenor trees are not yet ready for harvesting. We expect that they will become harvestable in the coming weeks.

Players looking for Shadowmoon Lumber to craft items with Warlords of Draenor professions should instead harvest Olemba Lumber from Outland. The lumberjack in each neighborhood will trade Olemba Lumber for an equal amount of Shadowmoon Lumber until the trees in Draenor catch up.

Fel-Touched Lumber iconFel-Touched Lumber (Legion – Broken Isles)

  • Valsharah
  • Suramar
  • Azsuna

Darkpine Lumber iconDarkpine Lumber (Battle for Azeroth – Zandalar/Kul Tiras)

  • Zuldazar

  • Stormsong Valley

Arden Lumber iconArden Lumber (Shadowlands)

  • Ardenweald
  • Maldraxxus

Dragonpine Lumber iconDragonpine Lumber (Dragonflight – Dragon Isles)

  • Azure Span
  • Ohn’ahran Plains

Dornic Fir Lumber iconDornic Fir Lumber (The War Within – Khaz Algar)

  • Isle of Dorn
  • Hallowfall

Thalassian Lumber iconThalassian Lumber (Midnight)

  • Quel’Thalas
  • Harandar

Other Tips for Farming

  • Druids can gather lumber in flight form. Zero mount cast time = maximum efficiency.
  • Sadly, the Sky Golem iconSky Golem mount will not let you gather lumber without dismounting.
  • Mushrooms are considered to be trees, so look out for these in Zangarmarsh and Maldraxxus.
  • Lumber is warbound. Unfortunately, you can’t sell it on the Auction House, but you can gather it on your most efficient character to send to your chief decorating alt.
