1.

Player Housing Introduction

The Midnight expansion brings one of the most anticipated features ever to World of Warcraft: player housing. This new addition allows players to create and customize their own living spaces within the game, adding a new layer of immersion and personalization.

In this guide, we will break down everything we know about player housing, including building and decor options, functionality, neighborhoods, and more!

2.

Buying Your First Home

Obtaining your first home is quite simple, as the first quest is an auto-accept breadcrumb quest that pops when you first log in post-11.2.7 (or post-Midnight). The resulting quest chain is extremely straightforward and takes very little time, so you will be on your own exploring the creative possibilities before you know it!

The housing quest chain is as follows:

  1. A House For You
  2. My First Home
  3. Welcome Home
  4. Time to Decorate

The initial cost of a home is 1,000 gold. You are able to have two homes across your Warband; one in the Horde's Razorwind Shores Neighborhood, and the other in the Alliance's Founder's Point Neighborhood. However, your Horde characters can easily visit your Alliance home and vice versa. You will also be able to buy from vendors and wander the Neighborhood regardless of faction, as long as your home is located there!

Take some time to familiarize yourself with the home privacy options, which are accessible in the Settings Menu to the right of the Edit Housing button when you are on your own housing plot. Players can adjust access to both their houses and their plots separately.

2.1.

Moving

If you find yourself unhappy with your plot, moving is easy and free. Simply browse open plots on your map, or take a stroll through the neighborhood, until you find your new favorite. Click on the Cornerstone sign at the front of the plot and select "Move House."

You can move at any time, even if you have already spent hours perfecting your landscaping and home decor. Never fear! None of your customization will be disturbed upon moving your home.

3.

Neighborhoods

Neighborhoods are the larger social community instances in which your home resides. They are comprised of 50 total plots, and can be Public or Private; Private Neighborhoods are either founded by guilds or founded via charter. Currently, it appears Private Neighborhoods, both Guild and Charter, take on the faction location of the player to initiate the neighborhood's creation. As with your Warband alt characters, if your Guild Neighborhood's faction is different than that of your main, you will still be able to build, live, wander, and shop in that neighborhood.

4.

Endeavors

Endeavors are thematic, Neighborhood-wide activities allowing players to engage in a variety of different activities in order to further the Endeavor's milestones. Completing Endeavor Tasks awards players access to exclusive, Endeavor-themed decor, new vendors, new quests, and Community Coupons Icon Community Coupons. Whether you are in a Public or Private Neighborhood, Endeavors will be available on a monthly cycle.

Heading Home

To get to your house, you have several different options:

First, you can navigate to your neighborhood via the Neighborhood Portal, located in the Orgrimmar and Stormwind portal rooms and attended by Tocho Cloudhide and Lyssabel Dawnpetal, the Horde and Alliance Stewards, respectively.

Access the Teleport Home, a Hearthstone with a 15 minute cooldown, located on your Housing Dashboard (natively bound to H).

6.

Decor Items

The driving force behind the flexibility and personalization of Player Housing is the decor catalog; both obtaining decor and placing it to suit your exact preferences are systems intended to be satisfying, interesting, and deeply personal.

7.

Exterior Customization

Basic housing exteriors are fairly limited, at least right off the bat. However, players will have access to four different themed decor "kits" as Midnight progresses. The Orc and Blood Elf kits will only be applicable in the Horde Neighborhood, while the Human and Night Elf kits will only be applicable in the Alliance Neighborhood. Once you have chosen your external kit, you will also be able to scroll through options like Base and Roof Style, Roof Color, Windows and Wall Fixtures, and more.

Each housing plot also comes with a substantial yard, and the massive decor catalog offers a myriad of options to allow players impressive flexibility in their landscaping and outdoor furnishing. There are some large structures, like gazebos, market stalls, and fountains, that may only be placed outside, but even most interior furniture and decor can go out in your yard to achieve the perfect entertaining space or dream garden.

8.

Interior Customization

Your house exterior may be limited to a few different decor kits, but interior customization is far more flexible.

Despite sitting on a finite-sized plot, the size of your interior is limited only by your housing level and your imagination. Your layout is also easily adjustable with just a few clicks, especially as you level up your home and learn new room options.

Interior structures, like pillars, doors and doorways, and all manner of different walls, can further structure, divide, and define your house exactly the way you'd imagined. Interior structures are a must for creating interesting spaces even in square rooms, and they come in a variety of themes to fit whatever aesthetic you are hoping to achieve.

The arrival of Player Housing brings with it a massive new collection in its Decor Catalog. Not only will most of us already have a big list of achievements to grind, but the catalog will continue to grow as Midnight brings a whole host of new achievements and factions! We've found several useful addons to help you in building your Housing Decor Catalog:

  • Home Bound is a necessity for the collection-minded among us. It neatly organizes all the achievements granting Player Housing rewards, and even provides 3D images of the decor item each achievement rewards.
  • Instance Achievement Tracker will remind you of which achievements you (and your party members) still need upon instance entry, and will track achievement completion as you progress through a fight. This is a must for any difficult raid and dungeon achievements you may be tackling for those high-value decor items.
  • Decor Vendor is, as the name suggests, focused only on Housing Decor Vendors. It allows players to browse decor vendors, vendors who sell decor recipes, and quest or achievement-related decor vendors. That's it!
  • Housing Decor Guide is a complete housing decor addon designed to help players identify exactly where every piece of decor in the game comes from. Housing Decor Guide can also plan vendor shopping routes, set waypoints, help monitor crafting costs, and even queue up crafting recipes for decor-related Auction House sales.
