Phase 2 of the pre-patch arrives today/with this week’s reset, so it’s time to take a look at where the specs are at before the big tuning pass! We’re also taking a look at spec populations, to have a fuller overview of the raid situation.
Note: We are using normalized scores instead of raw DPS for the Warcraft Logs rankings. Normalized scores take into account the outlier boss fights where certain specs could stack massive DPS (due to the nature of the fight, whether it’s AoE spam or something else), which would then affect their overall score for the whole raid.
Mythic
Spec Popularity
We’re starting with the spec representation this time around, since the DPS rankings themselves will be changing quite a bit after this week’s patch. The actual spec popularity isn’t really that similar to the actual results, as we’ll see specs outside the top 10 in the top here.
The spec’s popularity here is related to its popularity in Mythic+ as well, as we see Frost Mage really high up, despite its pretty unimpressive results in the DPS department in the raid. After some really hard times, Affliction is back in a big way, at least for now. Retribution sports the biggest popularity-to-DPS difference, sitting in 5th here and way down around 18th in the DPS department. We also see some Season 3 remnants, as Beast Mastery is still above Survival, despite it’s much worse performance in the pre-patch.
Overall Damage 95th Percentile
The new spec has fought its way to the top before the big tuning of phase 2 this week, gaining four spots. Devastation didn’t seem to get hit too hard by the Deep Breath bug fix, as it only dropped to 2nd. Affliction grabs 3rd after Fury drops three spots into 6th. Elemental and Shadow rise significantly, as Enhancement remains solid.
Overall Damage All Percentiles
We see a similar situation here, but Survival is still managing to (barely) fight off Affliction for 3rd, and Fury only falls one single spot. Arcane is doing much better here, actually gaining two spots.
Boss Only Damage All Percentiles
The direct boss damage chart is similar to the top percentiles, with the exception of Elemental dropping off significantly. Unholy is also doing significantly better here, as is always the case.
Individual Bosses
Fractillus

Nexus-King Salhadaar

Dimensius, the All-Devouring

Heroic
Heroic Spec Popularity
The new spec is dominating the charts here, significantly ahead of the most popular Mythic+ spec, Frost Mage. Retribution is still very high here, but not in the same league as the top two, around 10k below them. Beast Mastery stays strong from its Season 3 dominance, and Affliction rises with the new pre-patch power.
Heroic Overall Damage All Percentiles
Devourer is rising here as well, gaining 9 spots, but didn’t quite manage to unseat Survival. Fury is down a few spots, and Windwalker up a few.
