Manaforge Omega, the new 11.2 raid, comes with an optional boss called The Soul Hunters.
One of the Demon Hunters is sporting a void-themed specialization not available to players, which immediately caught the attention of the community and left many wondering: will we see a third DH spec in the near future?
A Void Metamorphosis Icon Hidden Deep in the Game Files
The first Patch 11.2 PTR build shipped with an icon named “INV_112_Ability_DemonHunter_MetamorphasisVoid.BLP“, which made us believe there may be something planned for Demon Hunters as we’re nearing Midnight.

If you remember, the third spec for Evokers got leaked via the Ebon Might, before the spec was officially announced, so the icon caused some excitement in the community, but now, we have Blizzard commenting on it!
Is This Blizzard Teasing a New Demon Hunter Spec?
According to Senior Game Producer George Velev, not exactly. When asked about the Void Demon Hunter boss in an interview with But Why Tho?, he explained:
“We ended up making some narrative beats in Patch 11.2 around Demon Hunters. So we want to sort of explore that little bit more in the raid.”
He went on to clarify it’s more about raid design creativity than a real spec reveal:
“Personally, I always really enjoy raid encounters that are based off of classes or specs. It’s a really good opportunity for encounter designers to flex different muscles. So it’s certainly just a fun exploration on our end to see what’s cool and what’s not. In terms of a new class or spec, we have nothing to announce, but it does sound really cool.”
So yeah, Blizzard thinks a new class or spec would be cool, but they have nothing to announce right now.

The full interview is really great and contains bits about why the optional boss feels rather mandatory.
