Underpin Defeated Without Boss Addons — Is This WoW’s Future?

WoW is heading into a very different combat encounter future. Blizzard are aiming to remove a lot of mechanics assistance addons. Coming sometime after patch 11.2, combat addons are getting a major trimming. The game will be rebalanced around that and the new baseline UI tools Blizzard will be adding. While you can read more about that here, today we thought we’d take a look at a sort of mini-preview of what may be coming.

A Clean Kill

Akcope faced the ultimate Delve boss for Season 2 without any boss-related addons making things easier. Now, sure, we’re in the latter portion of the season with some high item levels. And while the Underpin isn’t the most complex boss out there, it’s still a nice look at a cleaner kill without all the WeakAura or DBM popups, etc. Blizzard specifically called out the fact that they will be adjusting combat complexity down to what is feasible to manage without those types of addons. This particular fight may be on the light side with its mechanics, but it’s still a nice look at some raw mechanics handling.

We can see Akcope‘s Retribution Paladin handily taking the Underpin down in just over 6 minutes. And while the gear is certainly helping, it would definitely be doable earlier in the season as well. The Underpin himself is considered a little easier than his fellow Delve Nemesis from Season 1, Zek’vir. But he’s not completely trivial in terms of mechanics. Obviously, things will be more complex than this for raid bosses and similar, and we’ll have the new tools added to the base UI to help us out. But not having quite so many popups and callouts on screen is sure different from your regular boss fight experience!

Have you defeated non-LFR bosses without the aid of boss timers and addons?
