When Outdoor Decor Eats Your Entire Housing Budget

Emma's Avatar by Emma

Housing is here, and players are unsurprisingly knee-deep in Blizzard’s new forever feature. While the community consensus is overwhelmingly positive, one issue keeps coming up. Exterior budgets feel extremely restrictive, especially for those focusing on foliage or detailed pathwork.

Outdoor Costs Add Up Fast

Right now, simple items take a huge chunk of the budget:

  • A single beam costs 3 points, making custom stairs surprisingly expensive.
  • Trees cost 5 points each, with some bushes costing 3 points.
  • While Slate Cobblestone has a cheaper bundled option, if you prefer the Elwynn Cobblestone paths, it currently costs 1 budget point per stone.

Early Access Means Room to Grow

It’s important to remember: this is Early Access. Many players are hoping for one of two solutions—but ideally both:

  • Higher exterior budget, especially at higher House Level (see how to level that here).
  • Bundled decor assets, similar to the items available on the Midnight Beta.

Outdoor lighting falls into the same “missing but intentional” bracket. It was available during the Midnight Beta, but Blizzard have temporarily pulled it back while they dial in performance and stability.

Tips While We Wait for Improvements

Until we see adjustments, here are some ways to make your plot feel complete without burning points:

  • Use larger statement pieces. Fountains, gazebos, and big trees fill a lot of space cheaply. Some players are even turning their homes into ships!
  • Keep pathing minimal—at least until the bundled versions make a comeback.
  • Level your House Level. It’s likely increased budgets will tie into higher house levels in the long run. See how to level your House XP fast here!

If Blizzard builds on the strong foundations already in place, we should have a more flexible and creative Housing system on the horizon.
