When players debate World of Warcraft’s greatest expansions, yes, Wrath of the Lich King usually comes out on top—but Legion is never far behind. And for good reason. After years of mixed reception to new expansions, Legion marked a major return to form for Blizzard. But what made it so good? With Legion Remix, that very discussion has been reignited in the community as players debate exactly what made it great.

Class Fantasy and Identity
One of the things that made Legion stand out was how much it leaned into class identity. Each class got its own campaign, order hall, mount, and artifact weapon—each with their own vibes, lore, and style. And for the first time, maybe ever, players felt like heroes of their class, instead of just another random adventurer.
Strong Storytelling and Worldbuilding
Legion really stepped things up when it came to storytelling. Fan-favourite characters like Illidan, Khadgar, and Velen, were front and centre, and their involvement actually mattered. One player said “the characters felt relevant and present in a way that old WoW just didn’t do.” And we couldn’t agree more.
And of course, there’s the Suramar storyline. Even now, a lot of players still say it’s one of Blizzard’s best.
Endgame Evolution
Introduced with Legion were two major systems still in WoW today. World Quests replaced static daily quests with open-world objectives, making the zones feel relevant for the expansion’s duration. And for those in need of something more difficult, Mythic+ dungeons were introduced, offering a scalable challenge. Together, they created a wealth of repeatable content for both casual players and the hardcore crowd.
Legion was also the last expansion where a .3 patch shipped an expansion’s worth of zones—something that hasn’t happened in a .3 patch since—giving players a huge amount of fresh content late in the expansion’s lifecycle.

Legion Remix Rekindles the Magic
With Legion Remix now out, players have been reminded of why they loved this expansion in the first place. Even after all these years, Legion’s content still feels fun, fresh, and actually rewarding to play. For veterans, it’s a chance to revisit the fond memories and moments, while newbies are able to discover a piece of WoW’s history, and learn about the lore still relevant today.
