With Patch 12.1, Blizzard is finally adding the option to replace friendly nameplates with just names to the baseline game options.
These settings are not exactly new to the game, existing as a CVar option for a while now. However, with Patch 12.1, they will be part of the baseline options menu, widely accessible to players.
Accessing the Settings
The new nameplate settings are available under Options > Gameplay > Nameplates.
There are three new settings there:
- Only Show Names
- Use Class Color for Names
- Realm Name
When to Use This Setting
This is one of the best settings for group content for knowing who is even near you. Ever heard your raid leader say “everyone get close to me” or “stack on <person>”? With this, you can have a better understanding of everything that is happening, seeing clearly who is going where during an encounter or key.
