DiscordianKitty has opened a very interesting discussion on Reddit, one the WoW community can never get enough of.
The question is simply “what if Blizzard focused on revamping old zones for the foreseeable future instead of adding entirely new continents every expansion?“
As you can imagine, the thread quickly filled with replies, especially with Midnight’s revamped Silvermoon and Eversong Woods still fresh in everyone’s mind. For many, the difference compared to newer areas like Khaz Algar feels obvious.
“Just Keep Updating Azeroth”
A large part of the discussion is about how heavily it all plays into nostalgia. Players keep pointing to places like Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Ironforge, Azuremyst Isle, and even Northrend as zones they would love to see rebuilt with modern visuals and storytelling. This is especially interesting given that Blizzard has already hinted at possible updates for Stormwind and Orgrimmar in recent interviews.
Of course, Silvermoon in Midnight gets mentioned again and again. Multiple commenters wrote that it is one of the best cities Blizzard has ever designed. The level of detail and atmosphere clearly impressed a lot of players.

There is also an overall feeling that constantly discovering hidden landmasses weakens Azeroth’s identity. Finding yet another ancient race that has “always been there” does not really excite everyone anymore.
A revamped Ironforge, on the other hand? That seems to grab attention very fast. At least within this discussion. It is easy to see why this sentiment resonates beyond just this thread.
Not Everyone Wants To Lose New Zones
On the other hand, the thread is far from one-sided.
Multiple players point out that completely new areas like Hallowfall and Undermine have been among Blizzard’s strongest recent work. Cutting off new regions entirely would risk making expansions feel smaller, uninteresting, or too safe.

The most common middle-ground idea seems to be a hybrid model. Revamp parts of Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms, then introduce a new zone in major patches. That way, the world evolves without feeling static or “always the same.”
What Happens After The Worldsoul Saga?
There has already been speculation about potential revamps, including theories about a Lordaeron update linked to Midnight, as well as different ideas as to where the game goes once the Worldsoul Saga is finished.
Quite a few players in the thread imagine expansions focused on consolidating older regions into larger, modernized zones. However, there is also the worry that relying too heavily on nostalgia could limit the scope of future stories.
Right now, Midnight feels like Blizzard is testing the waters. Whether that becomes the long-term direction for WoW is still an open question.
Nevertheless, one thing is obvious: Players care deeply about Azeroth itself. No matter where the discussion happens. And when a revamped zone hits the right note, it hits hard.
