WoW’s New Transmog System Made Players Log Out

World of Warcraft’s highly anticipated new transmog system is live, and people have a lot to say about it. The community is awash with players expressing their opinions on the feature. But, unfortunately for Blizzard, most of them aren’t very positive.

The general consensus is that the new system is simply way too expensive.

On paper, the new transmog system sounds great—seamless outfit switching based on situations, the larger preview window, and improved catalogue browsing. In practice, though, many players logged in, saw the cost, and logged back out.

A Solution to the Problem?

But there is (sort of) a solution… Reddit user PrestigiousInsect305 suggested waiting until the Trial of Style in March, when transmogging is traditionally free. Many now plan to swallow the cost for the characters they care most for, saving alt makeovers for the event later this year.

Blizzard has responded to the backlash, announcing that when Patch 12.0.1 launches, each character will receive one free transmog as compensation for the high first-time costs. While the gesture is appreciated, it hasn’t exactly calmed the storm.

One Reddit comment that gained a lot of traction summed up a potential solution perfectly:

“At this point they should just make transmog free for a weekend. Let everyone play with the new system and move on.”

Ironically, that’s exactly what players will be able to do when Trial of Style returns—just not right now, when excitement around the new system is at its peak. Until then, many players are excited about what the new transmog system could be, but frustrated by what it currently costs.

But of course, the alternative to expensive transmog is no transmog at all!
