Chaos Rifts are a new seasonal activity in Season 10, bringing unstable portals of raw demonic energy into Sanctuary. These rifts open up and release waves of monsters, rewarding players who can close them with loot, reputation, and a chance at Chaos Armor.

Chaos Rifts spawn during Helltides or inside Nightmare Dungeons. When one appears, it will be marked on your minimap with a portal icon. Activating the rift triggers waves of demons, ending in a mini-boss fight. Clear the encounter, close the rift, and claim your rewards.

Rifts can appear frequently, sometimes multiple in the same area, and come in three rarities:

  • Magic: common spawn.
  • Rare: harder fights, better rewards.
  • Mythic: very rare, Torment-only rifts with even greater loot.

You have to manually activate a Rift, meaning you decide when you are ready for the fight.

Chaos Rift Nightmare Dungeons

Chaos Rifts are not limited to Helltides. Some Nightmare Sigils roll with a Chaos Rift affix, turning the entire dungeon into a Rift-fueled gauntlet. These dungeons are great during your leveling for farming Fleeting Horde Compasses, which unlock a shorter, early-game version of the Infernal Hordes activity (4 waves, 2 bosses).

At higher tiers, Chaos Rift dungeons can also lead to full Infernal Hordes runs, and eventually to Bartoc, the new endgame boss of Season 10.

Rewards From Chaos Rifts

Closing a Chaos Rift grants a variety of loot depending on its difficulty and tier. Possible rewards include:

  • Experience & Bonus XP buffs
  • Seasonal Reputation (Viz-Jaq’taar Veneration)
  • Gem Fragments
  • Nightmare Sigils
  • Aberrant Cinders in Helltides
  • Infernal Warp (Infernal Hordes content)
  • Murmuring Obols (Torment only)
  • Obducite (Torment only)
  • Chaos Armor (Torment only)

Mythic Rifts, although very rare, have a higher chance of dropping Chaos Armor.

How to Farm Chaos Rifts Efficiently

If your goal is to maximize Chaos Rift farming, here are the best strategies:

1. Focus on Helltides

  • Helltides naturally spawn Chaos Rifts in the open world.
  • Watch your minimap for the portal icon that marks a nearby Rift.
  • Move quickly between objectives; multiple Rifts can spawn within the same zone.

2. Target Chaos Rift Sigils

  • Use Nightmare Sigils that include the Chaos Rift affix.
  • These guarantee multiple Rifts inside the dungeon, often clustered together.
  • The higher the tier, the better the chance for Mythic Rifts and Chaos Armor.

3. Play in Torment Difficulty

  • Torment I+ is required for Chaos Armor drops.
  • Torment also unlocks the chance for Mythic Chaos Rifts, which offer the best loot.

4. Chain Activities for Efficiency

  • Run a Helltide to hunt Rifts in the open world.
  • Use any Chaos Rift Sigils you earn to farm Rift dungeons afterward.
  • Combine this with Strongrooms for even more loot and crafting materials in the same session.
