The Lesser Evils have waited patiently, striking when Sanctuary is vulnerable once more. To withstand their growing influence, you will need the strength of the High Heavens.

Spreading Across Sanctuary

Several core activities in the Seasonal Realm have been overtaken by the Lesser Evils in Season 11, each changing a different game mode with their own way of corruption.

  • Duriel dominates Helltides
  • Belial infiltrates The Pit
  • Andariel corrupts the Kurast Undercity
  • Azmodan roams the open world as a powerful new World Boss in both the Seasonal and Eternal Realms

Summoning Azmodan (Season 11)

Azmodan appears naturally as a World Boss within the world boss rotation, but during Season 11, he can also be summoned in the region south of Zarbinzet. Three Summoning Altars are placed there; each altar infuses Azmodan with the power of one of the other three Lesser Evils.

To summon him:

  1. Choose a Summoning Altar (each applies a different Lesser Evil’s influence).
  2. Defeat the enemies that spawn to begin the ritual.
  3. Challenge Azmodan, now empowered by that Lesser Evil’s abilities.
  4. After the battle, open the reward chests in the arena using Corrupted Essence.

Azmodan has increased resilience, so he cannot be defeated in a single burst of damage, and shrines inside his arena will not disappear mid-fight. Since Azmodan is the newest world boss addition to Diablo 4, keep in mind that he can also be targeted through the Party Finder for easier grouping.

The monsters that rise to support him also gain affixes based on the Lesser Evil you chose. Belial-themed versions create giant eyeballs that can blind you, while Duriel-themed versions spawn large eggs that hatch maggots if you do not destroy them in time.

Additionally, the capstone dungeon for Season Rank 5 also contains Azmodan, and defeating him is required for Season Rank progression.

It is usually worth summoning him once your Divine Gifts are fully unlocked, since the fight is tuned around stronger characters.

Duriel’s Corruption in Helltides

Duriel burrows into Helltides, flooding the zone with horrors:

  • The Blood Maiden encounter is replaced; you will now summon Duriel inside Helltide zones.
  • At maximum threat, Pangs of Duriel spawn instead of Hellborne enemies. These appear constantly and drop Baneful Hearts, which are used to summon Duriel.
  • Helltides monster packs now feature maggot-based monster families, including the massive new Portent of Pain mega-maggots.
  • Even Helltides meteors are corrupted; instead of fireballs, they now fall as swarms of maggots.

Duriel’s summoning animation has also been simplified to reduce unnecessary camera movement.

Belial’s Trickery in The Pit

Belial‘s presence inside The Pit will add another layer of challenge.

  • Belial Eyes appear randomly. Destroying the eyes (by getting close to them) stuns nearby monsters and summons Belial Apparitions; defeating them counts toward Pit progress.
  • Destroy enough eyes during your run, and the final boss is replaced by Belial himself. Killing him awards an extra Glyph upgrade and additional loot.
  • Throughout the dungeon, Belial’s corruption can create clones of your enemies, adding chaos to every fight.

In Season 11, Belial’s Eyes are now larger and easier to spot/target, and Belial’s defeat animation has been sped up so the fight ends more cleanly.

Andariel’s Fire in the Kurast Undercity

Andariel invades the Undercity to spread her corruption. Be careful, in order to find her in Kurast’s Undercity, you do need to own Vessel of Hatred, since this location is based in Nahantu, the expansion’s specific zone.

  • Spirit Beacons are corrupted, becoming deadlier but granting much more attunement when used.
  • Three new Andariel-specific Undercity Tributes have been added. They:
    • Boost Undercity rewards
    • Guarantee Andariel as the final boss
    • Add Dungeon affixes unique to these Tributes
  • Shades of Andariel haunt the deepest parts of the Undercity. These powerful phantoms drain your time with their attacks.
  • Andariel can also spawn as the normal final boss; defeating her grants increased rewards.
  • Enemies may be infused with Wailing Spirits, which unleash homing attacks targeting your position.

Andariel’s phase transition is now much faster than in previous seasons, and she no longer regenerates health when you die during the fight.

Seasonal Reputation

It is important to note that killing enemies tied to any Lesser Evil, while using either their Purified or Corrupted Gifts, will earn you seasonal currency. This resource levels your seasonal powers and helps you advance through the Seasonal Reputation board.

Open-world Lesser Evil events also drop unique items from Lair Boss reward pools, giving you access to stronger loot while fighting their corrupted versions in Sanctuary.
