The Beast in the Ice is a Lair Boss with its own unique loot pool. To earn rewards, you will need to take it down while managing a few mechanics. You can adjust the world tier in town to make the fight easier or more challenging. Higher Torment difficulty will reward you with better drops.
How to Summon The Beast in The Ice
To open The Beast in the Ice’s treasure after his defeat, you will need 12 Distilled Fear, which drops from completing Nightmare Dungeons. These can be farmed quickly by clearing low-tier dungeons with speed builds.
Once you have enough, head to the Glacial Fissure dungeon in Fractured Peaks. You can travel directly to the dungeon by right-clicking. Make your way through the short dungeon, and at the end, you will find an altar where you can summon The Beast in The Ice. You will need the Distilled Fear to loot the reward chest after the fight.

Preparations
- Stack Cold Resistance: Make sure your Cold Resistance is as high as possible. You can also boost your Max Cold Resistance with the
Elixir of Cold Resistance II.
- Play a Build You Trust: Bring a build with strong single-target damage and survivability. If unsure, check out our Boss Tier list for suggestions.
Boss Mechanics
The Beast in the Ice deals mostly Cold and Physical damage. Like most Lair bosses, he has a Stagger Bar; once it’s filled, it turns blue and will stun the boss temporarily, giving you a free damage window.
During the fight, in addition to its default attacks, the Beast in the Ice has a few mechanics to watch for:
- Frozen Strike: Swings his sword and releases Ice Crystals that travel forward, then explode into multiple smaller projectiles. Dodge early to avoid both the initial impact and the follow-up shatter.: The Beast spawns 3 crystals that shoot outward from his body. Where they land, each crystal splits into 3 more. Dodge out of the way to avoid getting hit.

- Icy Breath: When the Beast inhales, it’s your cue to move. Get out of the frontal cone quickly to avoid getting frozen.

- Ground Slam (Frost Circles): The Beast slams his weapon into the ground with a roar, creating circular frost zones. Shortly after, spikes fall from the ceiling. Step out of these zones before impact.

- Aerial Slam: The Beast leaps into the air and comes crashing down with a large AoE blast, sending Ice projectiles outward on impact. Back away fast to avoid the landing zone and the follow-up barrage.

- Sword Impale: Plants his sword into the ground and begins summoning icy storm lanes beneath you. Avoid standing in the marked zones and weave between them as they spawn. The Beast will continue summoning these in waves until he phases.

- Storm Lanes: The arena splits into four lanes, but only one is safe. Standing in the wrong lane knocks you into the surrounding storm, which usually means death. If you cannot reach the safe zone, try to get knocked back into a pillar instead.

- Add Spawn: During the airborne phase, the Beast summons waves of adds. Clear them quickly to avoid getting overwhelmed before he returns to the arena.

Loot Table
To get your loot, you will need to use the required materials to open the reward chest or hoard after the fight. The first Unique dropped is guaranteed to come from the boss-specific loot table below. Any additional Uniques have a 50% chance to come from the general Unique pool instead.
If you are playing in a group, each additional party member increases the chance of an extra Unique dropping by 33%.
In addition, The Beast in The Ice also drops Pincushioned Doll required to summon Andariel or
Stygian Stone required to craft any Lair Keys.
You can also earn The Skull Torch and Fell Steed Mount Trophies.

Belial Ambush Encounter
After defeating a Lair Boss, there is a small chance that Belial will ambush you. This unexpected encounter brings its own set of challenges, as Belial uses a mix of Blood and Poison magic that you will need to avoid.
Defeating this smaller form of Belial will grant you a second round of loot from the Lair Boss you just killed, without requiring any additional materials. He will also drop the Betrayer’s Husk, the item needed to challenge Belial’s Exalted Lair Boss form.
