Every new season in Diablo 4 comes with temporary mechanics, but sometimes Blizzard actually leaves them as permanent content. Horadric Strongrooms, introduced in season 9, earned that honor. But with Season 10’s Chaos Rifts, many players are questioning if Blizzard should not swap it out for future seasons.
One Reddit thread summed it up: “Chaos Rifts are quick, fun, and rewarding. They should’ve been permanent instead of Strongrooms.“
Why Players Love Chaos Rifts
Chaos Rifts have directly gained a lot of love for being short, rewarding, and fitting smoothly into any regular gameplay loop. They do not feel like an interruption, but it is more like an exciting surprise that pops up when you are farming, and spices things up a bit. On top of that, they actually feel rewarding, and that makes them extra satisfying.
Some players even went as far as to say they will not return for Season 11 unless Chaos Rifts stick around.
The Problem With Strongrooms
On the other side, Horadric Strongrooms have not really aged as well. Originally linked to farming Horadric Powers, their current rewards feel underwhelming. The Strongrooms are quite slow, they break your farming rhythm, and do not feel worth it.
As one player put it bluntly: “I ignore Strongrooms now. They just drop a few legendaries.“
Why Not Both?
Not everyone sees it as an either/or. Some argue Diablo 4 should keep both features, pointing to games like Path of Exile 2, that often stacks new mechanics season after season instead of replacing them.
Others suggest adjusting Strongrooms with better pacing and rewards, and on top, letting Chaos Rifts remain a fast and fun option.
The discussion also points out a bigger issue, and that is how Blizzard chooses what sticks around in Diablo 4’s Eternal Realm. Chaos Rifts clearly became one of the best activities for players, and Strongrooms show how a good idea can fade without meaningful and adjusted rewards.
It is unknown if both will survive into future seasons, but one thing is clear, players do not want fun, rewarding features to disappear!
