Diablo 4 Reminder: Sanctified Aspects Do Not Stack

Sanctification is meant to be the final craft on your best gear in Diablo 4. It is powerful, permanent, and locks your item, and that makes it all the more painful when it does not work the way you expect.

As the current season continues, Sanctified Aspects are still a bit confusing for some players. This recent discussion on Reddit highlights once again that the stacking rule is easy to overlook if you do not test it directly.

How Sanctified Aspect Stacking Works

Sanctified Aspects follow the same stacking rules as regular Legendary Aspects. If the same Aspect power is active more than once, only one instance will apply.

This means:

  • A Legendary Aspect on gear does not stack with the same Sanctified Aspect
  • When both are equipped, one of them will be disabled and appear greyed out
  • The game will always apply a single instance of that power

The One Exception To The Rule

There is one case where stacking is allowed:

  • Mythic Unique Aspects can stack with one additional copy of the same Aspect
  • Any further copies beyond that still do not apply

This exception works the same way it does outside of Sanctification and has not changed for the current season.

Good To Keep In Mind For Builds

Sanctification is a great addition in general and a lot of fun, especially because it adds flexibility to item setups, but it does not override existing Aspect limits. If a Sanctified power appears inactive, it is usually because the same Aspect is already active elsewhere on your gear.

Keeping this in mind can help avoid wasted Sanctification choices and make it easier to plan builds without guessing. So make sure to check your items before you sanctify them!
