How to Level Up Each of the Divine Gifts in Diablo 4 Season 11

Divine Gifts are currently one of the main progression systems in Diablo 4 Season 11, but the game does not really give any explanation on how you can level them up. Players mostly assumed that essence drops were random or bugged, especially for Azmodan and Andariel.

A few days into Season 11, the Diablo 4 community has figured out where each Divine Gift gains essence and why some activities barely move the bar. What felt unclear at launch now has a much clearer explanation.

Each Divine Gift Is Linked to Very Specific Content

Every Divine Gift needs 1,500 essence to fully level (up to Rank 5/5). The important part is that each one only progresses in its own content loop.

Duriel gains essence through Helltides. Any monster killed during a Helltide can drop essence, but the real progress comes from killing Duriel himself. Each kill grants a large chunk of essence, and opening his hoard adds even more on top.

Belial follows the same logic, but inside The Pit. Normal Pit clears slowly add essence, but fighting Belial and opening his hoard speeds things up massively.

Andariel is locked almost entirely to the Undercity. Monster kills can add essence over time, but meaningful progress comes from killing Andariel directly. This also means that hers is one of the slower Divine Gifts to level, especially if you do not spend much time in Kurast Undercity.

Azmodan is the most restrictive of them all. His essence drops only from normal overworld content, not from Helltides, Pits, or other activity types. Killing the summoned Azmodan in Hawezar gives some progress, but the world boss version gives a much larger boost.

Why Progress Feels Slower for Some Divine Gifts

Players often point out that Duriel and Belial tend to level naturally as part of common endgame loops. Which is true, as Helltides and the Pit are already core activities, so their essence builds up without much effort.

Andariel and Azmodan are different. Undercity runs are more niche, and overworld farming feels disconnected from most endgame goals. This is why Azmodan in particular often feels stuck, even after long farming sessions.

On top of that, some players also noticed that essence drops seem linked to specific marked enemies rather than being fully random, which adds to the confusion when progress feels inconsistent.

The Simple Rule That Works

The most consistent advice from the Diablo 4 community is straightforward: do more of the content that originally unlocked the Divine Gift. Trying to level Azmodan through other activities or hoping for passive progress rarely works.

Once you adjust your farming routes to match each Divine Gift, progression will make a lot more sense. It is still a grind, but at least it is a predictable one.
