The timing is fitting on another front: the first “Diablo” game launched in 1996, marking this year as the 30th anniversary of the action-RPG franchise. The world of Sanctuary is absolutely stuffed with lore, with the eternal war between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, the Prime Evils, the fall of Tristram, so there is no shortage of material to adapt, whether they pull from existing stories or forge new ones.
Netflix has a proven track record with dark, animated video game adaptations, with Castlevania and Arcane setting a high bar. A mature-toned Diablo series feels like a natural fit for the platform.
