How to Get the Lucky Coin for the Well Wisher Achievement

Jaym0 Avatar by Jaym0

The Lucky Coin is a secret and rare collectible item in Diablo 4, required for unlocking the Well Wisher achievement. But finding it is easier said than done, especially without the right setup. If you’re stuck, or if you’re hearing about this Coin for the first time, here’s a clear, step-by-step breakdown of how to farm the Lucky Coin efficiently, based on confirmed player experiences and in-game testing.

After a recent post on Reddit where a player was asking about how to get the Lucky coin, we looked into it and decided to give you a clear guide on what you need to do!

A lot of players gave many tips in the comments as well!

What Is the Lucky Coin?

The Lucky Coin is a secret item that can be looted from a specific type of NPC corpse only when you have the Greed Shrine effect active. It’s not tied to traditional loot tables or chests, this is a hidden mechanic that requires careful setup. This coin unlocks the Well Wisher achievement when used correctly in a specific sequence of hidden game interactions.

Requirements & Preparation

You will need to do the following things first, if you even want a chance to drop the Lucky Coin:

  • Use the Ahavarion, Spear of LycanderAhavarion, Spear of Lycander mythic staff (for shrine effect triggers)
  • Build at least 299% Lucky Hit Chance
  • Choose a Sorcerer build (best for Lucky Hit Chance scaling)
  • Reach 200% movement speed
  • Don’t use AoE skills that can ruin the setup
  • Play on any difficulty (T1 to T4 should work)
  • Unhire your mercenaries to keep the NPC kill free

Step 1: Build Setup & Gear Tips

To increase your chances, you’ll need to stack as much Lucky Hit Chance as possible. A good setup includes:

You still have a chance to drop the Lucky Coin, even without any of those items, however, this is just a set-up that will really max it out. If there is one item you need to seek out absolutely, it is the Ahavarion, Spear of LycanderAhavarion, Spear of Lycander. The rest remains more optional.

Step 2: Farming the Right NPC Corpse

The Lucky Coin can only drop from a very specific type of NPC:

  • Does not fight back
  • Has no health bar
  • Is already dying or recently killed by a monster when you find them
  • Often seen in an animation where they look like they’re someone or something’s prey, with werewolves feasting on them, for example
  • Cannot be saved or healed
  • Looks dead, slumped on the ground, not moving

Best Location: Shrouded Moors, Scosglen

  • Look around Blood Soaked Basin
  • Watch for werewolves attacking NPCs
  • Mark the NPC location with a map pin and don’t engage right away
  • Find an elite nearby to kill for shrine triggers
  • Use Blind Odwyn for repeatable elite kills (he respawns endlessly nearby)

Step 3: Trigger the Greed Shrine Effect

For those who may not know how the Shrine effects works with Ahavarion, Spear of LycanderAhavarion, Spear of Lycander, here is a short breakdown:

  • Killing an elite has a 1-in-6 chance to grant a random shrine effect
  • Greed shrine is one of the possible effects
  • Wait 10 seconds between shrine attempts (cooldown)
  • DO NOT mount after getting the shrine effect, it cancels it
  • Run to the marked NPC corpse and interact before the effect wears off

So basically what you need to do is find your NPC, mark it on your map, then run around and kill Elites until you get the Greed Shrine effect triggered, go back to your marked NPC corpse and interact with it fast.

While you technically can just run around and try to find an actual Greed Shrine, it would take you much longer than trying to trigger it with the Spear. But of course, if you do not have the possibility to get the Spear, since it is a Mythic weapon, finding a real Greed Shrine is always still an option. Just remember that it will take you longer.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Too much AoE damage: May accidentally kill the elite/NPC or destroy containers before you’re ready
  • Companions/mercs: Can interrupt the monster-NPC kill event
  • Wrong NPC type: Corpses found randomly or spawned from other events may not qualify
  • Mounting after triggering shrine: Ends shrine effect instantly
  • Wrong shrine: Enhanced Greed Shrines (from seasonal events) that spawn goblins do not count. Only Lycander’s Greed Shrine or natural ones without goblins work.

Final Tips

  • Sorcerer builds with Precision Magic, Aspect of Fortune, and Frigid Fate paragon board have the highest Lucky Hit Chance scaling.
  • Controller players: Yes, this works with controller as well, since NPC corpses will sort of highlight when near them.
  • You do not need to see the NPC killed, you just need the right corpse type + shrine effect.
  • This can be done in World Tier 1, there is no need to play on higher difficulties if you don’t want to. You do need to be at least in Torment 1, however. It won’t work on lower tiers.

The Lucky Coin is one of the most hidden and weirdly specific items in Diablo 4, but with the right build and strategy, you can easily get it without pulling your hair out! Technically. Unless RNG is really not your friend.
