With the Warlock class that is finally going to be added in Diablo 4’s upcoming expansion, Blizzard has released a new short story that gives us more details on the Warlock’s origins. Titled “The Lost & the Damned,” this new comic explores the origins, mindset, and struggles of the mysterious new class coming with Lord of Hatred.
A New Tale: “The Lost & the Damned”
Gather round to hear the perilous journey walked by any who are damned to become a Warlock.
More Than Just Power
After teasing some abilities and gameplay, Blizzard decided to focus a little bit more on the Warlock’s background this time. The story basically explains what it means to be a Warlock. The tale follows a lone Warlock traveling through a remote region linked to ancient magic, uncovering forbidden knowledge and confronting demonic threats along the way.
But the most important part of this comic is the fact that it goes over the core identity of the class. Warlocks are wielding demonic power without being consumed by it, living in total isolation and mistrust, and walking the line between hero and outcast.
Power Comes at a Cost
Throughout the story, the Warlock is shown using abilities that come straight from Hell to fight off demonic creatures and save a child. However, instead of being thanked for saving the kid, he is feared and rejected. Villagers do not see him as a protector, but as something dangerous, and someone too close to the forces he controls.
This confirms the fact that the Warlocks are not heroes in the traditional sense. They are needed, but never accepted.
A Different Class
If there was any doubt about the direction Blizzard is taking with the Warlock, this story makes it clear. This is not the usual heroic class, but more built around:
- Isolation
- Inner conflict
- Forbidden power
The darker theme that contrasts the Holy Paladin really fits perfectly within Diablo’s world.
You Can Read or Watch It Now
Blizzard made the story easily accessible in two formats:
- A free online comic
- A fully voiced motion comic, narrated by Din Mayfield
So if you are curious about the class, you can check out its lore right now without waiting for the expansion. As a reminder, the Warlock will officially arrive on April 28, 2026, alongside the Lord of Hatred expansion.
Releasing a story like this ahead of launch is a clear move to build anticipation, not just for the class itself, but for its place in the world of Sanctuary, and if this is the tone Blizzard is going for, Warlock might end up being one of the most interesting classes the game has seen so far, both gameplay wise and through its unique story.
