Should You Really Pick Chaos Waves in Diablo 4?

Chaos Waves in Diablo 4‘s Infernal Hordes are one of those features that split the community. On paper, they are tempting. You have a chance at the legendary Goblin Wave that will literally shower you with thousands of Aether.

However, in practice, they are as rare as Mythic items. Some players swear they have run 50+ hordes without ever seeing goblins. I personally only saw one so far, which is definitely not a lot, given the amount of runs I did.

So Are They Worth It?

On Reddit, players are currently debating if it is really worth taking the Chaos Waves each time or not.

The catch is risk vs. reward. Choosing a Chaos Wave often means missing out on a solid boon that would help your run. If you are unlucky, you might just end up with an underwhelming “collect spirits” or “protect the mass” event instead of Goblins or something that really will give you a ton of Aether.

Still, most players admit they can not resist clicking on Chaos Waves, because the moment you do hit goblins, it feels incredible. As one Redditor put it: “I won’t click it ever again! …Okay, I click it every single time, because THIS TIME it could be goblins.

So, should you take Chaos Waves? The verdict is quite simple:

  • For efficiency – Stick to boons if you want consistent Aether and smoother runs.
  • For fun – Pick Chaos every time and pray for goblins.

At the end of the day, it is all RNG. Chaos Waves are not a scam, but it is just another gamble. And let’s be real, most of us are still going to click that purple door.
