<p>Blizzard just announced that the&nbsp;Gift of the Tree&nbsp;event is making its way back to&nbsp;<a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/diablo-4-latest-season" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Diablo 4</a>&nbsp;today! This is not the first time the event has appeared, but it is still one of the best ways to farm loot and experience!</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Does It Work</h2>

<p>During the event, every time you hand in your&nbsp;<a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/tree-of-whispers-guide" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grim Favors at the Tree of Whispers</a>, you will get an extra Whisper Cache.</p>



<p>That means more gear, more gold, more experience, and a pretty big pile of various materials every time you turn whispers in.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Bother?</h2>



<p>Sure, it is not a super unique seasonal event or anything like that, but Gift of the Tree is a great way to boost an alt character, get more gold, or just get a little extra items out of your farming runs.</p>



<p>Since caches can drop a wide range of loot, this event often ends up being a really good way to grind. You can also farm some caches on your main, stock them into your stash, and open them on an alt to quickly get a TON of experience and gear!</p>

The Gift of the Tree Is Back in Diablo 4 But Is It Worth Your Time?


<p>The first major patch to Diablo 4 since the release of Lord of Hatred included a huge number of bug fixes. Some were small and will barely be noticed; some were a little more impactful. But there’s one fix — a sentence sitting unassumingly in the Paladin section of the patch notes — that looks set to have a truly enormous impact on the survivability of almost every class. That line was:</p>



<p><strong>“Fixed an issue where Aspect of Glynn’s Anvil did not properly increase Damage Reduction per Resolve stack.”</strong></p>



<p>Prior to Patch 3.0.2, the defensive component of <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" data-tooltip-name="Aspect of Glynn's Anvil" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/aspects/defensive.webp" alt="Aspect of Glynn's Anvil"><span class="tooltip-spell-name d4-codex-text">Aspect of Glynn&#8217;s Anvil</span></span></a> simply didn’t work. It was a dead Aspect. Now, it will likely be found on almost every build that can equip it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Why Is Glynn’s Anvil So Strong?</strong></h2>



<p>This Aspect will give between 3-4% Damage Reduction per Resolve stack, depending on whether you have a max-rolled version unlocked in your Codex of Power.</p>



<p>By endgame, most players will have the max Aspect, and also a way for their characters to generate Resolve stacks. A Druid, for example, could equip <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/icons/2DInventory_Talisman_CharmsGeneric_30.webp" alt="Might of the Ursine"><span class="tooltip-spell-name" data-item-type="Charm" data-item-quality="unique">Might of the Ursine</span></span></a>, and gain one stack of Resolve per second while in Werebear form.</p>



<p>By Tempering maximum Resolve stacks onto their helm, chest, pants, and amulet, and then making sure to land a Masterworking crit on that affix, a character can easily have over 50 Resolve stacks.</p>



<p>And various class-specific skills will allow for even greater stacks of Resolve.</p>



<p><strong>Let’s look at an example.</strong></p>



<p>Up until Patch 3.0.2, this Druid was wearing a pretty decent Tyrael’s Might. This is a Mythic Unique designed purely to increase defense and survivability. This particular one had Greater Affixes in all the right places.</p>

<p>Not bad, right?</p>



<p>With 58 stacks of Resolve, this Druid’s Toughness was<strong> 1,392,840</strong>.</p>



<p>If all defensive skills were active and a full barrier was up, that number could rise to <strong>3,020,716</strong>.</p>



<p>But what if that Druid was to Imprint Glynn’s Anvil Aspect onto a random piece of chest armor they had stashed away for a rainy day. No gems, no Transfiguration — just Masterworking to get max Resolve stacks.</p>

<p>Now baseline Toughness is <strong>9,085,216</strong>.</p>



<p>With defensive abilities and a barrier active, that number climbs to a staggering <strong>20,873,286</strong>.</p>



<p>That Druid then went and stood in a Tier 125 Pit and watched their health not move at all, as they just stood in the middle of every monster pack and floor explosion they could find.</p>



<p>That Druid felt good.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What This Means for Endgame Players in Diablo 4</strong></h2>



<p>For anyone pushing high-level content, this is a very big deal. Glynn’s Anvil is about to make so many characters so much tankier. This is great because not dying is great, but also because players will now be able to pivot to a heavier damage focus in other areas of their builds. So, we are about to get harder to kill, and better at killing.</p>



<p>Good times.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Some Caveats</strong></h2>



<p>In a recent video, Diablo 4 Partner and content creator Wudijo pointed out that gaining 12 extra stacks of Resolve on gear through Tempering and Masterworking shouldn’t actually be possible and may, in fact, be a bug. However, this was how things worked prior to the latest patch and nothing has changed. Wudijo predicts that this won’t be altered anytime soon. However, if Glynn’s Anvil ends up making players too immortal, there is always the possibility that Blizzard may nerf the Aspect, or make changes to it.</p>



<p>Wudijo also mentioned that the Aspect may not be equally strong in every situation. For example, it may not be easy to maintain max stacks of Resolve during boss fights if your build relies on crowd control to generate Resolve, since bosses aren’t always going to feed you stacks as easily as regular monsters. Resolve generators such as <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" data-tooltip-name="Aspect of Dominance" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/aspects/utility.webp" alt="Aspect of Dominance"><span class="tooltip-spell-name d4-codex-text">Aspect of Dominance</span></span></a> may therefore not be ideal in situations such as this.</p>

The Latest Diablo 4 Patch Has Made One Defensive Aspect a Must-Have


<p>It is a complaint as old as Diablo 4 itself. Fresh Reddit threads are once again popping up this week, with players begging Blizzard to let them dim, fade, or outright hide abilities of other players. Sanctuary has rarely looked busier with so many players coming back to experience everything the Lord of Hatred expansion has to offer.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Familiar Headache</h2>



<p>If this discussion sounds familiar, that is because we have been here before. And before that, and before <em>that</em>. Way back in Season 5 of the Infernal Hordes, a similar post calling the game &#8220;unplayable&#8221; in groups led to a wave of forum threads, <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/has-disabling-other-players-effects-become-needed-for-diablo-4/">one of which we covered at the time</a>. The official forums are still seeing fresh threads on the topic just this past week, including one asking for an <a href="https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d4/t/option-to-reduce-spell-effect-opacity-control-for-my-character-to-improve-mobgroundetc-visibility/250272">opacity slider for the player&#8217;s own effects</a> and another specifically calling for an <a href="https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d4/t/option-to-reduce-or-hide-other-players%E2%80%99-spell-effects-for-better-ground-affix-visibility/249901">option to hide other players&#8217; spells so ground-based enemy affixes are actually visible</a>.</p>



<p>Players are making their voices heard on other platforms as well, such as this Reddit thread from earlier today, which puts a humorous spin on the issue.</p>

<p>This is a consistent problem, and there has never been a stronger case for Diablo 4 effect toggles. As many players know, when a class with a screen-wiping AoE build hops into a Helltide, no one can see the floor, the boss telegraphs, or, in some cases, their own character.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why It Hurts More Now</h2>



<p>A few things have stacked up to make playing with others especially rough this season:</p>



<ul>
<li><strong>The new class, Warlock, leans heavily on persistent ground effects</strong>. These completely ruin visibility for the player and those around them. This leads to many deaths from unseen enemy effects, <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/diablo-4-on-death-effects-make-elites-more-dangerous-dead-than-alive/">especially pesky on-death effects</a>.</li>



<li><strong>Health gates have returned to many bosses within the game,</strong> making precise movement the difference between efficient gameplay and getting stuck in a death loop. If you cannot see the telegraphed attacks, you have no chance.</li>



<li><strong>War Plans add more reason to participate in open-world</strong> <strong>content</strong>,<strong> </strong>such as Helltides. The overwhelming number of players highlights just how bad this problem has gotten.</li>
</ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Solution Already Exists</h2>



<p>As we pointed out back in Season 5, <strong>Diablo 4 already de-prioritizes the visibility of Necromancer minions and certain traps </strong>for other players. The developers know that readability matters, and they have taken steps in the past to ensure it remains consistent. As the running joke goes, we have the technology. </p>



<p>Looking forward to the future, the most common requests from this week&#8217;s discussions include:</p>



<ul>
<li>A toggle to fully hide other players&#8217; effects from spells, items, and other sources.</li>



<li>An opacity or intensity slider rather than a hard on/off.</li>



<li>Outline-only rendering for AoEs from other players</li>



<li>An opacity slider for your <em>own</em> effects, so players can stop blinding themselves.</li>
</ul>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Is Blizzard Listening?</h2>



<p>There has been no official word on whether a solution for this issue will make it onto the roadmap. The Season of Reckoning&#8217;s latest patch notes have so far focused on balance and Tower updates rather than visual clarity. With Lord of Hatred shipping its biggest content drop yet, and the Tower beta absorbing developer attention, it is unclear when this issue will be prioritized.</p>



<p>Many argue that this has become a legitimate accessibility issue, and it is hard to dispute this stance. This has been a long-standing pain point for the community, and one that has been discussed at length across every platform available. There are many paths forward that would improve this situation; only time will tell what comes of these complaints. Do you think Diablo 4 effect toggles are necessary?</p>

Diablo 4 Effect Toggles: Players Renew Calls for this Feature


<p>One of the biggest loot changes introduced in <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Diablo 4 Season 13</a> and the <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/diablo-4-lord-of-hatred-overview/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lord of Hatred expansion</a> was the addition of randomized affixes on Unique items. And even if the system adds more variety on paper, a lot of <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/1tay3ve/does_anyone_actually_like_the_randomness_to/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=web3x&amp;utm_name=web3xcss&amp;utm_term=1&amp;utm_content=share_button" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">players feel like it has gone way too far</a>.</p>



<p>And for good reasons&#8230;</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Unique Items Can Now Roll Completely Useless Stats</h2>



<p>The main frustration is not the fact that it is random. Most Diablo players are already used to farming for perfect gear rolls on Legendaries, so having random affixes seems normal on paper. However, it turns out that it might not be the best for every type of item. The issue is that Uniques are supposed to be highly specialized items built around very specific skills or playstyles.</p>



<p>Now the problem is that you can find yourself in situations where:</p>



<ul>
<li>Random skill-specific affixes roll on Uniques for other skills</li>



<li>2H weapons roll affixes linked to 1H weapons</li>



<li>Elemental bonuses appear for builds that cannot even use them properly</li>
</ul>



<p>So you end up with players wondering why HOTA skill ranks roll on a Unique specifically designed for Whirlwind, for example. And it is honestly a fair question.</p>



<p>On top of that, you also add the fact that it just adds to the stash clutter, and forces you to micro-manage even more. You have to check for literally everything on every existing item, from the correct Unique and the correct Greater Affixes, to better aspect rolls, and now, also usable random affixes on Uniques.</p>



<p>For many, it feels like Blizzard stacked several extra layers of RNG on top of more RNG. Others say that the real problem is not the randomness itself, but the lack of ways to fix bad rolls afterward.</p>



<p>A common suggestion from the community is to simply keep randomized affixes but allow players to reroll at least one stat through Enchanting or the Horadric Cube. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Some Players Feel Uniques Lost Their Identity</h2>



<p>Another criticism that keeps coming back up is that Uniques no longer feel &#8220;unique.&#8221; Previously, many of them had specific stats linked directly to their identity. Now, because affixes are randomized, you often feel like some items lost what made them special in the first place.</p>



<p>At the moment, Blizzard has not announced any changes to the system, but this is definitely something that is not making everyone happy, and tends to clutter your stash even more than it already was, even with a Lootfilter on.</p>

Want to Get Paid to Write About Diablo 4? Icy Veins Is Hiring


<p>A Diablo 4 player has discovered a secret boss hidden inside The Pit. Unlocking it takes quite a lot of work and grants no rewards apart from an achievement and a prefix title for your account.</p>



<p>The hidden boss is Choron himself, and although the steps required to spawn him are somewhat arduous, there is one other benefit to going through the process. If you — <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/1t634rl/curse_this_place_im_being_followed/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">like many other players</a> — have grown sick of hearing this:</p>



<p>“<em>Curse this place. I’m being followed</em>.”</p>



<p>Then you need to stop being followed. You need to kill the one that follows. You need to find and kill Choron. Then, and only then, will your character’s repetitive internal monologue be silenced, and you can go back to Pit-pushing in peace.</p>

<p>The discovery was shared on Reddit by a super sleuth player, who posted a quick guide explaining how to unlock Choron and earn the associated achievement, “Apotheosis” and prefix title “Choron’s.”</p>

<p>As far as secret encounters go, this one is pretty well-hidden. Players need to track down a series of hidden plaques across specific Pit Tiers before Choron can appear as a boss.</p>



<p>You’ll need to enter The Pit at Tiers 1, 6, 11, 16 and so on, continuing this pattern all the way up to 96. During each run, you’ll need to find and click on a plaque, which will display a short message.</p>



<p>If you’ve ever accidentally clicked on one of these plaques while frantically mashing buttons and trying not to die, and thought how weird and inconsiderate it was that such a thing was left lying around in The Pit — well, now we know why.</p>



<p>That’s not just me, right?</p>



<p>Anyway, after the final plaque is read, you then have to keep running The Pit until Choron appears.</p>



<p>One commenter on the Reddit post said they completed the plaques from Tier 1 through Tier 96, then had Choron spawn after only two Tier 101 runs. The original poster had a longer wait, saying Choron appeared for them on Tier 127 — roughly 25 Pit runs after collecting the plaques. So even after all the plaques have been read, you may be waiting a while before facing Choron. The good news is that the voice in your head goes away after reading the final plaque.</p>

Diablo 4’s Annoying Pit Voice Leads to Secret Boss

Lord of Hatred’s First Major Patch Targets War Plans, Talismans, and Horadric Cube


<p>As more players push deeper into Lord of Hatred’s endgame, it’s becoming clear to many that the real final boss, when it comes to grinding, will be acquiring the best gems.</p>



<p>If you’re already working toward a full set of Flawless Horadric Gems, you know that the struggle is real. If crafting these new, ultra-powerful gems isn’t something you’ve thought about, or perhaps aren’t even aware of, then I’m sorry to tell you, but you have a long road ahead of you if you want to slot the shiniest gems in the game into your gear.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Gem Tiers in Lord of Hatred</strong></h2>



<p>There are six tiers of gems that can be crafted by the Jeweler. Let&#8217;s look at Topaz for example:</p>

<p>In addition to these old familiar gems, Lord of Hatred also introduced two additional gem types: Horadric Gems and Flawless Horadric Gems. These two extra tiers have changed gems from &#8216;kind of important,&#8217; to &#8216;absolutely vital&#8217; for players looking to maximize their power.</p>



<p>These two new gems aren’t crafted by the Jeweler; they are crafted using the <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/the-horadric-cube-in-diablo-4-is-far-more-flexible-than-you-thought/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Horadric Cube</a>.</p>



<ul>
<li>Five Grand Gems must be placed in the cube, then amalgamated to create one Horadric Gem.</li>



<li>Five Horadric Gems can then be amalgamated to create one Flawless Horadric Gem.</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Gems Work Differently in Lord of Hatred</strong></h2>



<p>The reason why gems now have so much impact on the strength of a character isn’t just because of the extra two tiers, but because LOH also changed what a gem actually does when slotted into a weapon socket.</p>



<p>Previously, gems gave additive damage bonuses to different damage types, or +Life on Kill for skulls. Now, they all give multiplicative damage bonuses. If you’re reading this, you probably like Diablo 4 enough to know what that means, but just in case … that’s the <strong>good</strong> kind of damage bonus. That’s what we want.</p>



<p>Let’s look at a Flawless Skull. Prior to LOH, it gave us +8 Life on Kill. That’s worse than meh. Now it gives x20% Physical Damage Multiplier. To say that is better is like saying pizza is “better” than cold boiled cabbage.</p>



<p>The additive damage bonuses of the other gems were at least useful, but not ‘slot a couple of Grand Gems and suddenly push an extra few Pit Tiers’ useful.</p>

<p>Where things get really wild is that you can also roll ‘Gem Strength’ when transfiguring an item to boost the power of your gems. Add Masterworking into that mix, and things can escalate quickly. The image below shows how Gem Strength, plus Flawless Horadric Gems is adding <strong>x196% lightning damage</strong> to this two-handed weapon!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Problem with Horadric Gems</h2>



<p>All this potential extra power from Horadric Gems is very exciting, but until they’re crafted and safely slotted into your gear, these magnificent gems are just that — potential.</p>



<p>Creating just one Flawless Horadric Gem requires 25 Grand Gems. If you’re playing as any character other than Barbarian, you have seven gem slots to fill. That&#8217;s 175 Grand Gems you&#8217;re going to need if you want a full set of Flawless Horadric Gems. If you’re a Barb, you have eleven slots to fill.</p>



<p>That&#8217;s 275 Grand Gems.</p>



<p>And each Grand Gem requires a million Gem Fragments to craft.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>The Best way to Grind for Gems</strong></h2>



<p>Just northeast of Temis is a dungeon called <strong>Seer’s Reach</strong>. The boss here will always drop at least three Royal Gems on any Torment difficulty, and occasionally, it will drop a Grand Gem.</p>

<p>This isn’t a scoop. Every Diablo 4 YouTuber has made a video about this, and if you make your way to the dungeon, there’s always a crowd outside the entrance.</p>



<p>If this information is new for you, however, what you want to do is:</p>

<li><strong>Enter the dungeon</strong></li>



<li><strong>Make your way directly north and kill the boss</strong></li>



<li><strong>Loot gems</strong></li>



<li><strong>Open your action wheel and select ‘Leave Dungeon’</strong></li>



<li><strong>Open your Quest Journal and select ‘Reset Dungeons’</strong></li>



<li><strong>Re-enter dungeon</strong></li>



<li><strong>Repeat until your eyes bleed</strong></li>
</ol>



<p>I’d like to say that with this optimal farming method you’ll have your Flawless Horadric Gems in no time, but assuming your character is fast enough and strong enough to zoom straight to the boss and one-shot it, this loop will still take around one minute on average.</p>



<p>Let’s do some math:</p>



<p>A full set of Flawless Horadric Gems = 175 Grand Gems</p>



<p>175 Grand Gems = 1,750 Royal Gems</p>



<p>If 3 Royal Gems per run = 583 runs</p>



<p>583 runs = 583 minutes =<strong> 9.72 hours of solid, back-to-back dungeon runs</strong></p>



<p>If you’re a Barb, it’s <strong>15.27 hours</strong></p>



<p>Obviously these equations are simplistic and ignore variables such as whether you&#8217;re lucky enough to get a few Grand Gems to drop, how fast you can run this loop, and how often you need to take a break to touch grass and question your life decisions.</p>



<p>Overall, opinions seem divided as to whether Blizzard has made the acquisition of gems too difficult. Some players are <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo4/comments/1t67xb7/gem_drops_are_much_too_rare_in_t12_as_well_as/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">clearly unhappy</a> about the time commitment required; others see these top-tier gems as aspirational content and are happy to earn them as Season 13 progresses.</p>



<p>Either way, top-tier gems combined with Gem Strength Transfiguration seem to be <strong>the</strong> ultimate power spike for Diablo 4 players in Lord of Hatred’s endgame, but, as has always been the case, with great power &#8230; comes great amounts of grinding.</p>

The complaint is a simple one, and one that veteran ARPG players have voiced since launch: in Diablo 4, killing an elite is often more dangerous than fighting it. Players are tired of killing an Elite pack only to die moments later to lingering poison pools, fire novas, cold explosions, or shadow detonations that erupt from the corpse. <li>The mechanic punishes high-clear speed builds the hardest. The faster you kill, the more overlapping death effects you create.</li>



<li>Several players pointed back to <em>Diablo 2: Resurrected</em>, noting that while D2 had its own punishing affixes, it did not feel as visually noisy or as unavoidable as D4&#8217;s implementation.</li>

<p>This is not a new conversation. Blizzard has acknowledged related problems before, and these specific issues have been fixed quickly. However, the broader issue of on-death affixes has remained largely untouched in terms of gameplay feel. Newer on-death effects continue to be added to complement new monster families, while the foundational mechanic continues to frustrate players.</p>



<p>The community&#8217;s argument is that the design intent of on-death effects has been undermined by the game&#8217;s own pace. Rewarding careful positioning by giving elites a final threat is purposeful game design, but does it fit Diablo 4&#8217;s state? </p>



<p>Diablo 4 has evolved into a loot game where build power scales toward instantly vaporizing screens of monsters. An unavoidable post-death explosion no longer feels like a puzzle to solve. Instead, this mechanic feels taxing.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Players Want</h2>



<p>Suggestions in these threads, and many others, range from outright removal to small tweaks. The ideas with the most traction include giving on-death effects a longer telegraph window, making the visual indicators significantly more readable, reducing the damage so they punish but do not one-shot, or simply removing them from the densest mob types. A smaller group defended the mechanic, arguing that a game without any post-kill threat would feel hollow. With this said, most defenders agreed that the current visual clarity needs work.</p>



<p>Blizzard has not yet commented on this latest wave of feedback on Diablo 4&#8217;s on-death effects. With the development team historically responsive, this is one worth keeping an eye on as we head into the next seasonal cycle.</p>

Diablo 4 On-Death Effects Make Elites More Dangerous Dead Than Alive


<p>Good news, Barbarians! <a href="https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/news/limitless-rage-affix-temporarily-disabled-in-diablo-4/">After being disabled on May 1st</a>, <a class="icy-gtnbrg-link" href="#"><span class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip"><img decoding="async" data-tooltip-name="Aspect of Limitless Rage" class="icy-gtnbrg-tooltip-img" src="https://static.icy-veins.com/wp/static/d4/latest/images/aspects/offensive.webp" alt="Aspect of Limitless Rage"><span class="tooltip-spell-name d4-codex-text">Aspect of Limitless Rage</span></span></a> is once again usable in Diablo 4 Hotfix 7. This follows Blizzard&#8217;s fix for the infinitely scaling issue in a previous Hotfix. Players who were previously running this Aspect can safely equip it again.</p>



<p>Last week, an unintended interaction allowed Barbarians to scale their damage infinitely using this Aspect. If you&#8217;ve been sitting on a build that depends on Limitless Rage, you can dust it off and get back down to mowing down Mephisto&#8217;s minions. Just don&#8217;t expect the same level of damage this Aspect previously provided.</p>
