Is This Season Journey Objective Even Worth It?
If you have reached the “Live in Excess” objective in Diablo 4’s current Season Journey, you probably saw the insane cost: 150.000 gem fragments (for Amulet, 100k for the Ring) per Legendary Cache, times three, so 450.000 fragments total to complete one of the objectives.
Luckily, however, you do not have to do it. There is no secret reward or title tied to 100% completion this season. Because of that, any players are skipping it, as this is one of the “craziest” objectives yet.
Here is the original Reddit thread where players are venting their frustration and offering some helpful tips:
Why Is It So Bad?
Fragment grind is brutal: Fragments do not drop that often. Getting hundreds of thousands is tedious and way too time-consuming.
Low reward-to-effort ratio: Each Cache only drops a single Legendary, often just a ring or amulet, and not always even good quality (Ancestral or Greater).
Burnout alert: The majority of players say this feels like filler content meant to pad out the season, not something that is actually fun or rewarding.
How to Skip or Work Around It
You can skip it entirely and still complete the Season Journey – zero penalty.
But if you still want the Cache items:
- Buy gems via trade chat
- Salvage them into fragments
- Convert unneeded fragments at the Jeweler

If you have the gold, this method saves you from grinding fragments yourself.
Player Feedback
Here are a few highlights from the Reddit thread:
- “I’d rather pull my toenails off than grind half a million fragments” – The_Sanity_Taker
- “This season was the worst all around in my book.” – alvehyanna
- “They’re adjusting prices/rewards in S9 based on feedback.” – zurcn
With how badly some of this season’s objectives have been received, it is no surprise that changes are already planned for Diablo 4 Season 9. For now though, you can relax – this one is completely optional. There is no hidden title this time, so you can skip it. And if you are set on completing everything anyway, you can always try buying gems from other players and salvaging them for fragments.
TL;DR
- 450k gem fragments for three Caches is excessive for the drop rewards.
- You can skip it – no hidden rewards tied to completion.
- Workarounds exist, but require gold and time-consuming steps.
- Provided feedback already confirmed to lead to improvements in Diablo 4 Season 9.
