Warning: You Cannot Unsocket Malignant Hearts + Replacement Bug Fix

Starym Avatar by Starym

The Season of the Malignant Hearts have proven to be quite powerful (especially one of the Necromancer ones). However, as players have been finding out over the past two days, they’re not as flexible as regular gems. This may be common knowledge already, but in case you weren’t aware, we’ll explain, as well as add a solution for a common Heart replacement problem.

The Unsocketing

You have to be careful where you put the Caged Hearts, as you cannot remove one once you socket it into a piece of jewelry. The only thing you can do once you socket a Heart is to replace it with another one or salvage it. The unsocket option at the jeweler will not work, and if you try to salvage the piece of gear it’s in, you will salvage both the item and the Heart, getting the crafting materials for other Hearts. And so if you want to change your ring or amulet that has a socketed Heart that you want to continue using, you’ll have to re-craft that Heart and place it in the new piece.

So if your Heart power is more important than the item upgrade, wait until you have your replacement Heart ready before salvaging the item. Here’s a video going over it all:

Replacing Hearts Bug

Unrelated to this, players have been encountering an issue with replacing certain Hearts, but luckily there’s a simple solution. You simply remove the item from your character and place it into your inventory. From there you should now be able to replace the socketed Heart with a different one (as Im_At_Work_Damnit found out and shared).

Hopefully this helped! For more information on Malignant Hearts you can check out our guide here. And here’s additional information on Season 1 in general:
