A recent Reddit post revealed a surprising fact for Diablo 4 players who are on consoles, and especially PlayStation. Typically, games considered multiplayer can not be played on PlayStation without the PS Plus subscription.
However, it turns out you do not actually need a PS Plus subscription to play Diablo 4. PS Plus is required for certain features, but if you anyway play alone, you do not have to pay any subscription on top of the game. You can still launch it.
Misleading Store Info
The Reddit post came as a shock to many players who assumed a subscription was mandatory, especially since the PlayStation Store splash screen suggests otherwise.
As one player put it, the game initially seems inaccessible without PS Plus, but it turns out you can still play solo, and that will definitely save money for those who prefer solo adventures.
Why Is This Important for Players
For solo players or those who do not intend to group up or trade, this is a small but meaningful victory. You can experience all the core content, events, and world activities without paying for the additional subscription.
Just keep in mind that anything that is “multiplayer”, like trading, parties, and PvP still require PS Plus. It is also most likely that you will not have access to the Leaderboards from Season 11 onwards without the PS Plus sub. However, if this is not something you are interested in any way, then it does not really matter.
It is a reminder that not everything shown on the store reflects the reality. Sometimes the front information that is given to you is a bit misleading in order to force you to spend more money, but it might be worth checking the small lines!
