Rumors ahead of this year’s BlizzCon pointed to a possible Diablo expansion or another major announcement, but few could have predicted an entirely new game in the franchise.
Blizzard has officially revealed Diablo 5, scheduled to launch in spring 2029. Details remain scarce, but the debut teaser confirms the return of the series’ titular antagonist: Diablo himself.
The reveal also raises questions about whether the Lord of Terror will appear in Diablo 4. With the Age of Hatred trilogy concluding with Mephisto’s death in Lord of Hatred, Blizzard may be saving Diablo’s return for the next game. For now, however, that remains speculation.
