ZZZ Finally Buffs Jane, Nekomata, and Rina in Version 3.1

HoYoverse has officially revealed the details behind the Potential Unlocks coming to Jane Doe, Nekomata, and Rina in Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) Version 3.1, and these are far more than simple stat buffs.

All three Agents are receiving meaningful gameplay updates designed to modernize their kits, but not every character is changing in the same way. While Jane and Rina receive powerful quality-of-life improvements alongside stronger support for their existing playstyles, Nekomata has effectively been rebuilt with an entirely new resource mechanic that changes her playstyle a bit.

Jane’s Buffs Make an Already Great Agent Even Better

Jane arguably needed the fewest changes of the three, but that didn’t stop HoYoverse from giving her some meaningful upgrades. The biggest addition is Aerial Sweep – Onslaught, a brand-new EX Special Attack that becomes available while she’s in Passion State. Besides dealing heavy damage and building even more Physical Anomaly, the attack is also considered a Dash Attack, which is a much bigger deal than it first appears.

That’s because Jane’s signature W-Engine has always been a little awkward to maintain. In some situations, Alice’s W-Engine outperforming Jane’s own simply because of how difficult it could be to keep its effect active. With her additonal Dash Attacks, Jane should have a much easier time keeping her signature weapon online throughout a fight.

HoYoverse also improved her survivability and overall damage. Dancing Blades is now much harder to interrupt, Salchow Jump can trigger a Perfect Dodge while restoring more Passion, and her Core Passive now increases the Critical Damage of Assault. Since Jane remains the only Agent able to make Assault crit, that’s a significant buff for both her personal damage and the Anomaly teams built around her.

Nekomata Receives the Biggest Overhaul

If one Agent is walking away from Version 3.1 completely transformed, it’s Nekomata. HoYoverse has introduced an entirely new mechanic called Purr Energy, giving her a dedicated resource that builds naturally during combat. Once enough has been accumulated, Nekomata can unleash two brand-new attacks: Disappearing Tail, letting her teleport behind her enemy, and Fluffy Piercing Claw, allowing her to unleash a big damaging nuke that spices up her gameplay.

Her Additional Ability has also received a major upgrade. After using Disappearing Tail, or whenever any Agent triggers Assault, Nekomata’s EX Special and Dodge Counters become significantly stronger. Considering her previous Additional Ability was often difficult to get value from, this change alone should make her much more rewarding to play in general.

HoYoverse even addressed one of her oldest quirks. Players can now control how many times Nekomata passes through enemies during her Enhanced Basic Attack, making positioning far more controllable and intentional. These changes are major, but it remains to be seen just far ahead she will come out considering her current state.

Rina’s Support is Easier Than Ever to Maintain

Rina isn’t receiving the dramatic overhaul Nekomata is, but long-time players will probably appreciate her changes just as much. Her biggest weakness has always been maintaining the uptime on her Core Passive, and Version 3.1 tackles that problem head-on with a brand-new mechanic called Fright.

Whenever Rina uses her EX Special, Chain Attack, or Ultimate, her Bangboo dolls begin generating Fright stacks while attacking. Once enough stacks have been built, they’ll extend the dolls’ active duration, making it dramatically easier to keep Rina’s signature PEN Ratio buff active without constantly managing their uptime. It’s a simple change, but one that should make her much smoother to play.

HoYoverse also expanded Rina’s support capabilities beyond PEN Ratio alone. Her updated Core Passive now grants additional ATK and DEF based on her PEN Ratio, allowing her to fit comfortably into more team compositions than before. The new DEF buff is particularly interesting, especially with growing speculation that upcoming Agents could scale directly from the stat. Regardless of where that speculation leads, Rina looks like a far more complete support heading into Version 3.1.
