Full Overview: Playable Species in Guild Wars 3

One of the biggest questions surrounding Guild Wars 3 has finally been answered…partially. It has recently been announced that players will have four playable species to choose from when creating their characters, with future updates and expansions likely eventually adding to that list.

Three of the four have been announced thus far, which includes Human, Asura, and Kodan. The fourth will be announced closer to the official release date of Guild Wars 3.

If you’ve played any of the previous Guild Wars games, you may have already played as a Human or Asura. You’ve likely came across the Kodan, but this is the first time this will be a playable species (which a lot of players are excited about)!

The fourth species is still a surprise, and the community is already throwing their guesses around what it may be. There are rumors of it potentially being Jotun, Dwarves, Tengu, or even a completely new species to the series. Only time will tell though on what it really will be!

As for the species we know of today, we’ve gathered some initial background information that will help you make one of your first major decisions once you eventually jump into Guild Wars 3 – choosing your race!

Playable Species Highlight: Human

The Humans species is the most familiar playable species in the Guild Wars franchise, but their story will be very, very different in Guild Wars 3.

Guild Wars 3 will bet set during an ancient period of Tyria’s history, long before the events of Guild Wars 2. As a Human in Guild Wars 3, you’ll be surrounded by a completely new, magical world that your people are not very familiar with. View it as a fresh start, with your civilization and settlements growing, your guilds getting stronger and stronger, and a level of hope and eagerness to test your power.

If you want to lead humanity throughout the world of Tyria, the Human race might be the best choice for you.

Playable Species Highlight: Asura

The Asura species you may know from previous Guild Wars games is very different than the Asura species you’ll encounter in Guild Wars 3. To be more specific, the Asuran society has a MUCH more balanced relationship with the surface, and they’re overall a more confident species as a whole.

‘They’re a bit rougher around the edges, eager to explore, and even a little bit taller. Visually, the Asura species is always a favorite as you can get a bit creative when making your character with a lot of unique looking characteristics. ‘They’re a bit rougher around the edges, eager to explore, and even a little bit taller. If you’re interested in playing as a fluffy (and dangerous) character, then Asura might be the choice for you.

Playable Species Highlight: Kodan

One of the new playable species being offered to the Guild Wars franchise is Kodan. These are bear-like looking characters that are heavily defined by their faith. To be more specific, the Kodan community worship a god known as “Koda the Creator”, which they believe is the sole fashioner of Tyria and everything that inhabits it.

Those that may question or refuse their faith may run into trouble, which is a scary thought as the Kodan species are also known to be some of the most capable fighters across all of Tyria.

If you like the appearance of bear-like characters and want to look a bit larger than the typical player, then Kodan might be the best choice for you.
