While there’s been no official announcement from Ubisoft on the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, rumors have continued to leak out. The latest comes from Jeux Vidéo Magazine, an outlet with a decent track record on Assassin’s Creed related leaks. There’s no date for when the remake is slated to arrive. It may be a while given that Shadows released this year with DLC having just released in September. Speculation points to a holiday annoucement and a release in early 2026. Still rumors about the game’s design have continued to float around the internet.

More RPG Elements Than the Original
The latest indicates a big departure from the original Black Flag, in the inclusion of RPG elements found in more recent AC entries. Titles like Valhalla and Shadows feature character levelling prominently, and those mechanics may appear in the Black Flag remake. Rumors also hint at overhauls to the story, axing the modern-day elements to beef up the backstory of protagonist Edward Kenway. A change that, let’s be honest, most players will probably welcome.
All of this is still in the realm of rumors, so we’ll need to wait for confirmation from Ubisoft. Black Flag is well regarded by many gamers as one of the best titles in Assassin’s Creed. A remake could be a big hit for Ubisoft, and win over players jaded by the more recent AC titles.
