Just before the unveiling of Call of Duty 7 at Gamescom 2025, a recent leak revealed the Vault Edition Bonus Skins ahead of its official announcement. It seems COD is going to keep going with its outlandish, silly skin area.
Call of Duty 7 Vault Edition Skins
These leaks come from COD Warfare over on X, thus showcasing that Call of Duty continues, for better or worse, with their choice in skin designs. While these skins aren’t anything to write home about, show any exciting references, or really have anything noteworthy, they do show something about COD’s future. Many fans have been driven away from COD due to the seemingly never-ending line of weird crossover skins, or even at times out-of-genre skins.

This is also something that Battlefield 6’s higher-ups and developers have quoted. Battlefield 6 ‘s design director, Shashank Uchi, said, “I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj. Let’s keep it real, keep it grounded.” Fans have heavily resonated with this, which could be a partial or major reason why hundreds of thousands of players have been praising BF6 not only for its realistic art style and skins, but perhaps its gameplay.
Is COD Losing Touch?
Some argue that not every aspect of COD is disconnected from its player base. For better or worse, recent campaigns from the COD series have remained more grounded, and gave some truly great moments and characters. However, when it comes to its multiplayer, Warzone, and occasionally Zombies, COD seems to lose its understanding of its playerbase over the years.

Of course, not all players feel this way. Some do enjoy the fast sliding, wacky skins, and non-serious tone and feel that COD has grown into. Yet, at least for the moment, the numbers don’t lie. Players are turning to BF6 for a reason. But, can Call of Duty figure out that reason before it’s too late? We will know more soon at Gamescom on Tuesday, August 19th.
But what do you think? Do you enjoy modern COD or prefer the older games? Should Call of Duty 7 take notes from BF6? Be sure to let us know, and keep an eye on our latest news.
