The Xbox Showcase just concluded, and fans finally got a look at a ton of big upcoming titles. One of which is the highly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day. Set during Emergence Day, players will finally get to experience the world falling apart before the beginning of Gears of War 1, alongside the bond between Marcus Fenix and Dominic “Dom” Santiago.
Emergence Day Is Coming
E-Day is more than just a prequel to the Gears of War series; it’s a return to form with many fan-favorite modes, mechanics, and more all rebuilt from the ground up. During the Xbox Showcase and the Gears of War: E-Day Direct, fans finally got a full look into the new things coming to the old world.
Iconic weapons such as the Lancer and Retro-Lancer are, of course, returning, with a handful of new weapons and ways to move around the battlefield. For the first time in Gears history, players will be able to not only move from cover to cover, but also go prone into low cover or slide and jump up to higher places.
While some fans worry that new movement tools could drastically change how Gears plays, these additions maintain the same speed, responsiveness, and level of control that defined previous entries. The E-Day Direct also pulled back the curtain on the game’s technology, revealing the most advanced environmental destruction in the series to date. Built from the ground up on a brand-new engine, E-Day delivers a level of detail and world interaction never before seen in the franchise.
A Return to Form
Gears of War: E-Day isn’t just bringing forth a new epic campaign, but also is bringing back classic PvP multiplayer and seeing the return of the fan-favorite Horde Siege PvE mode. Thus, hopefully giving fans more reason to stick around this time compared to the launch of Gears of War: Reloaded.
Overall, things are looking up for Gears fans. Gears of War: E-Day will be dropping on October 6th, 2026, but if you preorder, you can play 5 days early, along with nabbing some extra cosmetic skins.
