Ready to die for likes?
One of the biggest surprises from PlayStation’s latest State of Play was the return of a horror franchise many fans thought might never get a true sequel. More than a decade after the original game’s release, Until Dawn 2 has officially been announced for PlayStation 5 and is currently scheduled to launch in 2027.
For the reveal, Sony and Firesprite released the first trailer, giving us a glimpse at the new location, cast, and the terrifying mystery waiting at the center of the story.
A New Story, New Characters, and a New Nightmare
Unlike the original game, Until Dawn 2 tells a completely new story with a new cast of characters. This time, you follow the crew behind “Dead True”, a popular paranormal investigation channel known more for staged fake “haunted” scenarios than any real supernatural encounters.
Basically, the group gets a huge television deal that literally sends them to a remote tropical island where they are supposed to film their biggest episode. It begins as another opportunity to get more views and internet fame fast by filming some “fake” scary ghost scenarios. However, it quickly spirals into something far more dangerous when they discover that the island’s legends may be real.

According to Firesprite, the island hides secrets that go back centuries, and the ghost hunters soon find themselves fighting for survival rather than searching for their next viral clip.
The Butterfly Effect Returns
If you played the original Until Dawn, you will be happy to hear that choice and consequence remain at the heart of the experience. Until Dawn was probably the one game where your choices had real consequences, so it is nice to know that this will not change.

Just like before, every decision can alter the story, determine relationships between characters, and ultimately decide who survives the night. Firesprite says relationships will play an even larger role this time. Even the smallest interactions between characters can influence future events or create new branches and unexpected outcomes later in the story.
Everyone can live, everyone can die.
The trailer already hints at a few difficult decisions you will have to make, ranging from personal conflicts within the group to life-or-death situations. And sometimes, the most obvious choice might be the one leading to your death.
A Familiar Face Returns
Until Dawn 2 introduces an entirely new cast, but one familiar character will come back. The mysterious Dr. Hill, portrayed once again by Peter Stormare, briefly appears in the reveal trailer.

His return immediately raises questions about how the sequel might connect to the first story, especially since Firesprite has described Until Dawn 2 as a standalone experience.
For now, the studio is keeping those answers secret.
A PlayStation Horror Classic
When Until Dawn launched in 2015, it became one of PlayStation’s most memorable horror games thanks to its story and the multiple branches possible, a memorable cast, and the constant feeling that every choice mattered. Since then, we have received a remake and even a film adaptation, but a true sequel has remained absent.
That finally changes in 2027.
Firesprite says it will reveal more information about the game’s story, characters, and gameplay over the coming months. Until then, horror fans finally have confirmation that one of PlayStation’s most beloved horror franchises is officially coming back.
