It has been a suprisingly busy time for Vamprire Survivors. Not only have they dropped multiple updates, including Co-op mode and updates to the Castlevania DLC, but now Warhammer is getting its own standalone game using the official Vampire Survivors engine.
Warhammer Survivors
Seeing how it’s using the Vampire Survivors engine, it’s safe to say the gameplay will feel pretty much the same. However, the most interesting part is that it’s not just characters and enemies from Warhammer 40k, but also from Warhammer Fantasy, specifically Age of Sigmar. It’s no surprise that 40k is the more popular universe, but it’s still wonderful to see active acknowledgement and development for keeping Warhammer Fantasy around. It’s a breath of fresh air to see Warhammer Fantasy coming a little more into the spotlight outside of Total War & Vermintide 2.
Why A Standalone Game?
However, why make a standalone Vampire Surivors Warhammer game, on the same engine, rather than make it a gigantic DLC? Perhaps its a standalone because of the Warhammer IP, or perhaps some weird other reason. It is worth mentioning that, once again, Malum Caedo from Boltgun is in this game, so maybe there’s a weird warp-related reason?

I suppose that also begs the question of whether this game is somehow going to have ties to any sort of official canon because of Caedo’s inclusion, but that’s likely false. Aside from our favorite Ultra Marine we also have some other noteworthy includions like Neave Blacktalon and Gotrek Gurnisson.
Regardless of the reasons this is a standalone game instead of a DLC, it’s still a wonderful sight to see a Cadian Shock Trooper fight hordes of Skaven, or a Stormcast Eternal Vanquisher cut through dozens of Tyranids.
Warhammer Survivors is set to drop sometime in 2026, with developers promising they will get back to us soon with even more details. So, in the meantime, keep an eye on our other games section for future updates.
