Earlier this month, Blizzard put on a Scandinavian Road Trip to show off World of Warcraft: Forever. They had advertised Beta testing, giveaways, Creator meetups, and even a “full miniseries covering the Forever journey”. The first episode of that miniseries has now dropped, and it’s way cooler than we expected.
Contrary to what we may have expected, this miniseries isn’t actually covering the events that took place in Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Instead, it’s a fully produced road trip show that follows WoW content creators as they explore the beautiful sights of Scandinavia (and play WoW Forever while doing so).
It’s much better experienced in video than described in text, but I still want to highlight this beautiful text that Stian Blipp wrote right after WoW Forever was announced:
“I’ve walked this grass before.
I’ve traversed these paths, stood atop the mountains and explored the deepest chasms.
Back when life was so much, much easier.
With tears in my eyes and a tightness in my chest, I have braced myself for the day
I would be forced to say goodbye to this place.
A place that has been like a second home to me for 20 years.
A world that gave me strength.
Where the real one left me disheartened.
Where friends were always waiting.
With a cold tankard of mead.
This is my place.
I belong here.
After all these years, we’re going home.
And not just to visit.
The old warriors who we lost touch with are coming out of retirement to take up arms once more.
They’ve spruced up your youth, invited us back for good, and promised that this place will once again be our sanctuary for years to come.
Whether you’re Horde or Alliance, Gnome or Orc, Warrior or Mage.
We are damn well going back to Azeroth. Forever.”
