Blizzard Wants to Keep Loot a Surprise in WoW Forever

BiS lists for every stage of the game, boss loot tables at the ready – this is how many WoW players are used to playing their favorite game. However, this could end with WoW Forever because Blizzard plans to hide item information to preserve the unique sense of discovery.

Item Stats Will Stay Hidden Until Loot Drops

According to an MMORPG.com interview with Senior Game Designer Josh Greenfield, an item’s stats only become visible the moment it drops for you or someone on the server – not exclusively when you personally obtain it.

In essence, this means that players discover WoW Forever’s new loot together instead of starting out with fully established BiS lists.

Discovery Should Last Beyond Launch

Greenfield also mentions that Dungeon Journals won’t explain encounters initially in WoW Forever either, so “player discoveries” could also include discovering, well, raid bosses!

Of course, this doesn’t stop the evolution of a WoW Forever meta. However, during the phase launches of Season of Discovery, players got a taste of what it feels like to find out about new game content by themselves – and the gamers in us can’t wait for exactly that feeling!
