WoW Forever’s Beta test went live yesterday, and, to no one’s surprise, many players couldn’t wait to log in and try out WoW’s brand-new game mode. The queue grew, the disconnects piled up, and Blizzard eventually resolved the server issues. But what happened?

Tom Ellis, Senior Game Producer and “occasional” server engineer, dove deep in a post on X and explained the technical background of yesterday’s issues as a mix of several bottlenecks around monitoring, database management, and not properly downscaling virtual resources:
