WoW Forever Is Turning the Humble Campfire Into a Major New System

Emma's Avatar by Emma

WoW: Forever is giving players a new reason to actually stop and enjoy the world, with Camping coming as a brand new open world system. Gone are the days of tiny Spirit buffs from Cooking Campfires—WoW: Forever is taking that idea and running with it!

The idea is simple: players can place a Campfire out in the world and turn it into a shared Campsite. Other players can then stop by, rest up, grab useful buffs, and even contribute their own crafted objects to make the Campsite more useful. These Campsites will also include vendors, repairs, and tradeskill items to enable crafting out in the wild!

Unlocking Campsites

To unlock Campsites, you’ll need to train your Cooking to be able to build your first Campfire. You can then unlock additional items to improve your Campsite through questing, profession skill level unlocks, and Blueprints found on your adventures.

Basic Campfires allow up to three crafted objects to be added by nearby players, with each object carrying a one-hour cooldown.

Camping is closely tied to Professions, with different tradeskills able to contribute their own items and benefits. Each profession will have three different objects to place at Campsites, with the first learned at skill level 20. Each profession carries their own buff/utility regardless of object placed.

Here are the examples we know of now:

  • Blacksmithing Sharpening Wheel for Strength buff
  • Tailoring Faction Banner for Spirit buff
  • Herbalism Incense Candle for Intellect buff
  • Fish Bowl that buffs All Stats

These profession items can then be further upgraded, from items that just provide buffs, to actual usable crafting equipment. This is the Blacksmithing example shown at BlizzCon:

Alchemists can place Alchemy Labs, Leatherworkers can add Tanning Racks, and Cooks can upgrade their Campfires to hold five or even 10 objects. For the first time, WoW’s professions will have meaning and utility in the open world.

Legacy Perks

Forever’s new Legacy system also gets involved in Camping. The Legacy system is a challenge based achievement-like system, rewarding account-wide perks. The perks revealed for Campsites so far are as follows:

PerkDescription
Reagent EconomyYour class abilities no longer require reagents purchasable from vendors, and your Tier 1 camping features cost no reagents to craft.
Field Guide (3 Ranks)Reduces your cooldown on adding Camp features by 8%.
Permanence (2 Ranks)Your class abilities that grant long-duration stat or attribute benefits to all party or raid members last 50% longer, and the benefits you gain from resting at a camp last 50% longer.

So far, we’ve only seen the tip of the Camping iceberg, with features like Vendors to sell and repair also a planned addition. It’s a feature you can expect to play a huge part in WoW: Forever’s new experience!
